# 1 Detecting cloaks...
02-15-2010, 12:12 PM
I was playing around this weekend with a Klingon and found a number of instances where people could detect me while cloaked and I didn't notice them (animation wise at least) using a skill to do so. Is there a a skill I am unaware of, passive or otherwise? I know there is that one skill that puts out the ring around your ship damaging shields and breaking/preventing cloak but nobody was using that, any ideas?

I believe the science Sensor Scan ability lets you see cloaks (when I'm engaged in PvP vs Klingons with my fed I always make sure that if I think they're around that i activate this... and even though I can't see them animation wise, I can then start to target them... nice when they're shields are low in cloak )

That is a Captain skill only, not a BOFF skill? And is that the skill with the blue arcs, like radar, that rotate around the ship? If so it definitely was not that as there was no animation at all in the case I was talking about.

Anyone can detect you when cloaked without using any skill, if you get close enough. Science ships do this to a much greater range than other ships. Its based on sensor skills and aux power against your aux power and some skills.

Sensor scan is a Science Prof skill not a BO skill.
It increases the sensor perception of your vessel and friends if they are targeted for a period of time.
If an enemy is targeted it provides an additional damage resistance debuff for a period of time.

So, it could have been activated before you even came into range.
Also, good SV captains have MES engaged with their Aux maxed which usually can spot a cloaked Klingon who is running around with their own Aux at around 50 without being detected themselves.

This, I think. My usual downfall when some escort happens to have points in sensor skills and detects me.

Semi-related: The automated defense turret from DDE will fire on any nearby tgt, even if cloaked. This will alert the prey...

I think he means "Mask Energy Signature" wich could in the form of Mask Energy Signature III with max points in "Starship Engineering Training" and "Starship Auxiliary System Maintenance" and at least a few points in "Starship Auxilliary System Performance" for a science ship provide a resonable cloak as well as cloak detection. I mean to test that with my second science ship. (Or maybe the first if th respec comes reasonably soon.)
