# 1 Lighting and Shadowing Issues
03-05-2010, 01:43 AM
So I've taken a few screenshots from the Sierra Outpost Station, Minefield mission. I found a large number of lighting & shadow issues on this station, and I imagine that if I looked elsewhere in the game I might find some more. This first batch of photos are at various AA settings:

AA Off
AA 2x
AA 4x
AA 8x

You'll notice that in the AA 2x and 4x shots there is a large shadow across the floor and in the Off and 8x there isn't one. If I walk towards the shadow, it moves until it finally disappears, if I turn around from my new location, the shadow is no on the other side of the room.

This next set of photos was taken of me the same room, under a light source in the room.

See my face in the forground lit nicely? I'm standing directly under the light source, my BOff in the background, notice that her face is shadowed...very darkly? She's almost directly under the light source.

Same light source, same position, inverse view. My BOff and I have the same shadowing, but she isn't even under the light.

This shot is of me under the light source looking up into the face. You can see the light source and the different shadowing on the face.

This is me under the same run of lights, just at the opposite end. Again from bottom up view looking into the face. Notice how much more of the face is shadowed than before?

This is me just to the left of the light source. The light should be shining down directly onto the right side of my face, but yet it's shadowed.

And finally, the most bizarre of them all...

This was taken just outside the previous room, in the hallway. As you can see, I am directly under the light source, yet both myself and my BOff are completely shadowed. As I moved down the hall, I went from lite to shadowed at evenly spaced intervals....about 3 or 4 steps.

Here is a link to the entire album showing all the different pics that I took.

I also tried setting shadows off. While floor shadows were turned off, none of the character shadows were. So I still had shadowing on my face. I tried adjusting the lighting setting as well, didn't make a difference in the shadows. Not sure if this is a bug, the way the game was made, or my video card, but I figured I'd post it to find out.

EDIT: Also, when these shots were taken of the face shadows and lighting, my AA was set to 8x. I played with it from off to 8x, but on the characters the shadows never changed.
