# 1 Roles of Ships?

Trying to L2P here so forgive the newbness..

What are the roles of the ships in PVP. Some are more readily apparent than others. Escorts like PVE would be DPS. Science Vessels.. I would guess support (CC and Healing) and helping with Cloakers for Feds. But cruisers in PVE are more like tanks than anything how would that translate in PVP. Do they become mainly a healing styled ship?

It is a little more complicated than that. Yes cruisers are tanks due to the big hull but yet they are also good at healing. They get commander and lt commander bo's so you can heal shields and hulls very effecient. With that being said, I would say that Engineers in cruisers make it more of a healer than tactical. They gear the ship out for dps and don't have the ability to train the bo's with rk III engineering skills like an engineer does.

Science vessels imho are more of a debuffer/cc than a healer, while yes they can heal.

Escorts are cut and dry dps.

there is nothing to learn, if you have played WoW or any similar fantasy game, you will do fine find a some macros to implement and choose a build and set of "I win" combination and you can start stun locking and rooting enemy Spaceships in left and right and pawning them to kingdom country.

Ships in this game just look like ships, they do not act like ships, and combat is nothing like Star Trek Combat in space. It is all a mockery.

Suraknar has a bitter.

Escort = squishy DPS, best used by engineers or science officers. Science officers with sub-nucleonic beam (a science captain skill) can be pretty deadly in an escort. Engineers do okay in them since they get some bonus tanking abilities that help offset the weaknesses of the ship. Tacticals should just stay away from escorts, IMO -- they have low survivability and so does the ship.

Cruiser = tank/healer/DPS. Cruisers are nice because engineering boffs are very versatile. You've got Emergency Power to Weapons to buff your DPS. Extend Shields is probably the best ally shield heal in the game. Reverse Shield Polarity is 15 seconds of near invulnerability. Aceton Field is a nice weapon debuff (which as far as I can tell has no cure). Engineering team is a good ally hull heal. Etc. Any class can fly a cruiser and in my opinion it's one of the better ships for a Tactical captain to fly -- he can use his DPS boosts and turn rate boosts to shore up the areas the cruiser is lacking in and I think that works out well.

Science = healer/crowd control/debuffer. Science boffs are deadly in PvP -- not directly, like tactical and engineer boffs but indirectly in that they stop the target from being able to fully defend itself. Tractor beam to stop runners and rammers and to seize up the turning speed of ships with cannons. Viral Matrix to hopefully stop your target from being able to RSP or otherwise save himself from death. Jam Sensors can get someone to stop attacking you. Scramble Sensors can potentially screw up a whole enemy team (and curing a Scramble is like a 50/50 prospect). Hazard Emitters is a very nice self and ally hull heal and resist buff. Science boffs do a lot of nice things.

I'm sure I've left out some good powers worth mentioning but that's about the size of it.

The weakest ship of them all is the Escort, IMO. I don't think the price you pay for being squishy is worth the extra DPS you can do. I also think tactical boffs are underpowered in general, with a weak selection of good skills (and too many skills that they do have share too few timers), so having extra tactical slots isn't as good as extra engineer or science slots. BUT there are cases where front loaded DPS can be put to good use and Escort cannons are good for that.

Klingon side is fairly different. The Klingon Battle Cruiser is like an Escort/Cruiser hybrid -- it's weaker than a cruiser, sturdier than an escort, can mount cannons and has extra engineer boffs instead of tactical boffs which is frankly an improvement. Consequently the actual Klingon Escort (Raptor) is pretty useless. It's not really bringing anything to the table that the Battle Cruiser can't do better.

The Klingon BOP is a tradeoff -- you get fewer boff skills than any other ship and your defenses are very weak but you can battle cloak and you can completely customize your boff loadout, which is nice. You can basically rig a BOP up as a "science escort" -- all the goodness of cannons and high turn rate and none of the badness of stupid, useless tactical boffs taking up the oxygen.

Klingon Carrier is basically a huge, slow, science vessel. Turns like a cruise liner but between the pets and the engineer+science boffs it gets, it's a beast.
