I know there was almost no point to them, but it kinda showed when you were actually a good level to go on the exploration missions. My "To Boldly Go" for the Khazan Cluster just disappeared with no warning. It was there one day and gone the next. No leveling in between.

The mission automatically ends once you visit that area, whether you get the mission or not.
