Recently we've had to download a pre-patch. In this pre-patch there are files.
Let's looks a bit closer at the path to the files mentioned above. In the directory "Star Trek Online\Live\prepatch\piggs" we find the following files:
bins.hogg
bins2.hogg
bins3.hogg
character.hogg
data.hogg
exes.hogg
object.hogg
sound.hogg
texture.hogg
texture2.hogg
texture3.hogg

Am I the only one who finds that HOGG files in PIGGS directory sounds porcine?

It's definately a bit of an in-joke. .hogg is just a container file (like a .zip or .rar but without the compression), so they tend to be realy big, the programers probably decided to call them pigs because of that. Champions also has .hogg files. I think City of Heroes had .pigg files which they put into a piggs directory. When they updated the Engine the directory kept the name but the new file format changed to .hogg to continue the joke.

It's always fun finding those kinds of thing in game data.

Friends are having trouble downloading the prepatch - can we just copy files across or were there other changes? And how can I get a dev to answer this! : )
