Am I the only one here paranoid enough to wonder if the OP's *actual* paper was outlining how a gaming community would react to something negative about their chosen obsession? Maybe he could troll other forums too? I know slashdot has some real nerdholes in it.
I notice the replies are about half brutal attacks:
"Show me the proof!"
"Your spelling makes you look dumb!"
"Your paper sucks!"
"You don't know how to run an experiment!"
Then the other half are sarcastic comments followed by random animal noises.
In all honesty I think the problem was you did your experiment with college students.
If I was still in college I can honestly say I would not have renewed my subscription either.
Sure the game is fun and nice to be able to have the diversion, but you actually make money playing online poker and frankly 15 dollars buys alot of beer.
Besides that if you have alot of time to try out the game the first month you can pretty much do everything inside of a month and feel you got your 50$ worth of fun. Why not cancell and come back later and in the meantime spend that 15$ a month on beer?
Besides that your in college and have relationships, and classes to have alot of fun with.
The game is dead. Hard core Star trek Fans will make sure of that. The Rep STO has is so bad right now I do not think anything can save it. I only plain to come back once they lift the level cap they got now and that may be a few years. I am logging in about once a week now to download updates because I hope the game makes it.
