A bug that involved Romulan Liberated Borg captains and their skills once they chose an ally
This is the second time this has happened, my being auto silenced due to being
reported as generating spam, due to users clicking "report spam" over a long period.
This needs to be fixed, it is malfunctioning, it does not record the frequency of messages.
I am not generating spam, I never spam anything. I occasionally advertise for a fleet,
which does include a web address, but it is not a commercial site (in other words
nothing is being sold, it is shown solely for membership purposes) how can this be
harmful? I generate a message, at a maximum, every five minutes or so, this is not
frequent enough to be spam, or flooding. It is my opinion that fleet members of other
fleets are intentionaly reporting fleet advertising as spam to have people silenced,
using this flaw in the chat system.
If indeed the issue is the inclusion of a web address in the message, this should
be made clear, as the issue is not "spam" generation but "commerical advertising".
Again, this occurance is absolutely not commerical advertising.
The first time this happened I responded to the error ticket with a lot of enthusiasm,
and my chat was restored in minutes, and the error ticket closed without explanation.
This time an error ticket was not generated, and the error ticket generation is broken
where I cannot generate a ticket, no matter how i try, hence the post here.
Please restore my chat and fix this problem immediately.
"Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately."
Note the operative words "bulk" and "indiscriminately".
This instance has neither characteristic.
I personally deliver fleet advertising messages, one at a time, once about every five minutes.
If you wish to check the site being shown, please do... 6th Fleet
People being able to indiscriminantly silience others for 24 hours, without any scrutiny,
is just wrong. How is it that the content of the message, it's size, it's frequency, is
not a factor? How is it that the people who generate the report are not checked for
being "report spam" happy and reporting non-instances of spam? It is THEY who
should be punished.
WOW so people advertising for a fleet can get silenced for 24 hours but people SPAMMING FOR YOU TO BUY CREDITS from them dont. I log in everyday with 20 new messages asking to go to there site i keep getting messaged AND THEY DONT GO AWAY!!!!!!
I agree with all this. This is EFFing bullESS. I got silenced for not even recruiting or spamming! I was just talking in open chat, asking questions about my consoles, and I got silenced out of nowhere! I was not spamming at all, either.
I may not be correct about the malicious nature of people "reporting spam" to
deliberately silence people (for 24 hours no less).
It could be possible that people simply use "report spam" for all needs,
even those where "ignore player" would suffice. Why? Because it
works the same way as far as they are concerned, the offending player
is ignored. As far as peoples view goes it's just simply easier to always
"report spam" rather than have to think about it and use "ignore player"
instead where needed.
I have ignored a LOT of problems with this game (MAJOR bugs) due
to the fact I hold Star Trek stuff in high regard. However this is really
poor programming on the developers part. If the developers had thought
about the problems this implementation would create (such as false
positives, or silencing due to non-spam) for just five minutes it would
have never gotten into the game. Terrible design.
People may be reacting to seeing a web address in your message and not actually reading your message.
If that is the case, why don’t you change up your message by removing the web address and state in your message to PM you for additional information at which point you can give them the website.
See if this reduces the number of times, you are silenced.
tbh if your posting enough to have people report for spam and ignore you then your posting to often and annoying more then one person because i my self never report/ignore people unless there genuinly bothering me and preventing my abilitys to read other chats. in this case im going to assume its a guild recruiting webpage and info often of which and all i have seen so far are to often and annoying to not be report/ignored.
i have yet to report a player for playing the game how ever the ignore function is just below the report function.
"all i have seen so far are to often and annoying to not be report/ignored."
This is a lie. Some fleets (ours included) post respectfully and keep it short.
Such as not posting a recruitment message more than once in five minutes.
And.. keeping it to one short sentence, leaving the details of the fleet out,
such as...
"We are the 6th fleet, please check us out at 6thfleet.com"
You need to read the definition of "spam". It is "in bulk"... not this.
People abusing the "report spam" button should be banned from play,
they are seriously upsetting players and causing loss of STO business.
The message being reported should be recorded and checked for
actual spam. In the event it is not spam, it is reported as abuse
by the "report spam" clicking player. At the very least, reports
of spam by a person documented as having abused the feature
should be disregarded completely.
People like you urieaal are acting out childish aggression and using
the "report spam" to inflict harm upon innocent victims.
