# 1 To The Average Fed (PvP talk)

I have been reading the forums for the fed side for a change today. One thing I have noticed is alot of feds are complaining about how fast they die in PvP. Their ranks I am unsure of for most, but I do know at least a few are in T1, but this is directed more for the T5 range of players as well as other tier ranked players, but more for the T5.

1.) Cannons and Beams can both do massive damage, and with beam overload your weapon power only gets drained roughly by about 1/3, whereas before it would empty. This is a very nice change for feds if you ask me. (three 1/3 are equal to 1whole as far as calculation if you didnt know).

2.) When in a true PvP match and your group is dying, instead of going back to the group in combat, go about half way in and stop and wait for the rest to come there, or have a plan on where to meet up if you start losing. In a salvage map it is different, but still do not go it solo because you will get hammered.

3.) If you want to know how to PvP make a klink and lvl them to at least Commander 1 or a little higher. In Commander ranks klinks really start to shine thanks to the diverse ships and the experiences of PvP.

4.) Get into a clan that uses ventrilo and/or teamspeak. You must also use it for this to work correctly, but login to it and actually speak to them. It also helps a huge amount if you join a clan that plays both sides, has players that favor the playstyle of one side or the other, and one that feels right. Just dont argue too much that one side is OP or better, that type of talk is not good in ventrilo and/or teamspeak, and it is an old arguement on the forums.

5.) Escorts from both sides can use all cannon type weapons. When someone is specced for cannons, has the three new skills for space combat, and has consoles that magnify the use of cannons they become very powerful. This said, it will not matter at all if you are doing the following, this is only an example.

(you are using plasma cannons, 3x dual heavy in the front and 3x turret cannons in the rear. The target is a carrier with shields that have 20% plasma resist. Thanks to all the skills you have and the equipment to augment the plasma damage you will do the targets resistances are minimal at best. This said you will have little trouble tearing his shields off).

6.) Some very good skills to look into are:
*Reverse shield polarity (countered mainly by Tykens Rift and Energy Siphons)
*Viral Matrix (countered by Attack pattern omega, science team, and if you fast enough reverse shield polarity)
*Tykens Rift (countered by simply moving away from the rift, but this can be hindered if you are hit by two layers using a tykens rift and gravity well)
*Subnuc Beam (no real counter, but if you use it be prepared to be the main target alot more)
*Jam Sensors & Scramble Sensors (countered by using science team on yourself)

There are some tips for those of you who may or may not have known. Hope this helps at least a few people, and for those that dont want to play a klink at all, eh its your monthly plan and your respawn point, use it as much as you want. But, if you want to learn how to PvP, play a klink till you can do PvP as a commander and do that for a couple more levels. Who knows, you may actually like playing klingon more.

The number one tip I can give those of you who either have a klink or want to make one. Make a tactical officer, klinks are not designed to be as good of a tank as feds, just look at our ships and the minus % shield and hull we get. Also, I play tactical and love my high yield 3 and rapid fire 3 combo, melts those star cruisers really fast since season 1 came out.

2. DON'T FLY OFF BY YOURSELF

3. BEAM BOATS DO NOT WORK WELL IN PVP ADD TORPS TO YOUR SHIP.

4. DO NOT ATTACK THE FIRST SHIP THAT DECLOAKS

5. LINE OF SIGHT IS A BEAUTIFULL THING

LOS is nice, but keeping an eye on your radar helps out some too, but dont just look at your radar alone.

You are right, one of the best ways to improve your PvP experience is to play as a Klingon. Most Klingons I have played with in free formed teams are RA5 feds giving the Klingons a shot since there isn't much left to do at the RA5 level. The added experience of knowing what works against you helps you play well as a Klingon. However, it isn't until you come across a good fed team that you realize how you should have been playing as a fed all along.

Mobile fedballs, RSP, Hit and run for escorts, pre determined rally points, and never rushing into a battle at full impulse are all survivability concepts that are lost on most fed players and new klingon players. The first time you get your ass handed to you as a Klingon you pay attention, trust me. But you will take those lessons learned back with you when you play as fed again.

I want to also add additional to the above said:

1.) Learn to run! If your defensive skills are on cooldown and you realize that your time has come - power to engines + evasive maneuver out. Not granting the enemy a kill in an arena is important. You will also be able to come back faster.

2.) Don't full-impulse into the enemy. Never.

3.) Don't full stop. Your defense-rating goes to -5% (+10% with the new skills fully skilled) when full stopped. You can't turn and if someone picks you up you can't turn a fresh shield facing to him until the high yield III blows you to pieces.

4.) Don't shoot enemies glowing green (RSP) or having an extra blue shieldcircle around them, granted by another vessel (you can see who granted this, extend shields, by following the blue line - then take this person out, his RSP is now on 20secs global cooldown)

5.) Focus Fire! If you don't have vent or someone calling targets simply look around you - the enemy that gets shot the most from your allies should be your enemy too. Or tab through targets and take the most damaged one. Another variant: Click on an ally (over the group window preferably) and see his target right under his info box click on it and you target it too.

6.) Help your allies out of VM with science team. They have a pink cloud around them. Call in team-chat for help if you got VMd and your science team is on CD.

7.) Kill the most threatening enemies first. If you face Klingons that are most of the times their BoPs. It is annoying if the enemy is able to use 1 VM, but if he can use 2 you did something wrong. Recognize who used SNB. Next time he decloaks facing you hit RSP asap.

8.) If you are under SNB but too close to full power to engines and fly off effectively (this works quite well if the enemy is >7km away), get close to him, fly by, anything that breaks his cannon-fire-angle. If you are too far for that or face several enemies shooting you together circle so they have to kill all shield facings. Increasing engine power while under SNB is always good -> higher defense-rating.

9.) Heal your allies

and last the standard bugfixes:
10.) If you can't respawn - press esc twice
If you can't access the report button press esc-rearrange HUD and drag the pvp window a bit down, so it doesn't overlap anymore - the report button shows you who and how many enemies you face. You can find the missing player from your side with report and then message him over /who. Await the Klingon attack ~1:30 mins after they got the same or max 1 less player than FEDs.

1. if you can't beat pve, FFS don't go into pvp. its not making it any easier.
2. learn to heal teammates
3. stop attacking that feedback pulse science vessel.
4. learn when you need to return to the fight ASAP, and when you shouldn't return to the fight.
5. stop using mask energy signiture
6. Healing vessels can't heal forever, do more dps if your an escort.

I always target BoP's, but they have this thing that causes your target to switch to the heavier ships while you are looking down at the 900 buttons you have to push in sequence... repeatedly.

Star trek the Micro management game. I need actual crew members to do all this stuff on my ship.

Too bad they don't put in a simpler mode like just weapons and shields.

I believe that would recapture the Star trek flavor.

That's just Scramble Sensors - any ship, Fed or KDF, can carry that.
