# 1 Struggling with The Cure
04-03-2010, 03:56 PM
So let me start off by saying that I am enjoying the STFs so far. I think Infected is a great change of pace and I like the teamwork and coordination required to get through it. Even the jumping is fun for me, of course I mostly played through it after the spawn timers and shields were fixed. It is a bit heavy on trash but not too terrible for a first go. I have now made a few ventures into The Cure and while I am again enjoying the challenge I have hit a bit of a wall with this mission and I am looking for help.

Now I have read Kor_Dahar's guide (congrats on being first - stroke stroke) but it seems a bit light on the nitty gritty details needed to get through this mission. I have not really had a problem up until the dreaded 4 transmitter section. I have been through here with about 4 different groups and tried to activate these things going on 100 times now and I have yet to do it.

I tried Kor_Dahar's strategy. Light the first trans, kill the spawn ASAP, light the second trans, kill that spawn ASAP, then light 3 and right after light 4 with everyone asigned to a trans to clean workers off of. I have gotten close doing this but it never seems to complete. I even found that if you light the first trans and allow the workers to shut it off and then clear the spawn and relight it right away you can avoid that first spawn and save some time. But it still isnt enough...

Does anyone have any specific tips for this strategy? Is there a better node for the Engy to watch or a better mix of classes to have? I have a High Density KB gun and so have my teammates... Does everyone need a [Borg} weapon? What are some goal times that we should be having the first spawn down and lighting the second trans? If someone has a video of themselves getting through this I would pay good money to see it! If I have something wrong here or people have any advice, I am all ears.

I have also tried a second strategy, which I am not sure is in the spirit of the level but does not seem to be an exploit. This second strategy involves a person or 2 on each of the nodes that stays out of range of the spawns and just focuses on killing the workers as they get to the transmitters. For this strategy one person runs through and lights all the transmitters as fast as possible. I have gotten within 10 seconds of completing the section this way, but still have fallen just short.

Does anyone have any tips for this strategy? If you have one runner, that leaves 1 person for each other transmitter (and one group of 2). Where should the group of 2 be, the first trans? What classes should be where? Does it help to drop turrets somewhere? Where is a good spot for the guy on transmitter 3 to sit? Is this an exploit (in which case I will abandon it, I like method 1 better but at this point I will try anything once to see if it works).

So in closing I want to reiterate that I am not asking for a nerf or a change. I do enjoy the challenge but even though I think I know what we are supposed to do, I have just not been able to do it yet for this one extremely frustrating part. I would abandon it completely but the next STF seems really cool and you need to do this one once to get access to it.

I would love to hear any other success or failure stories out there as well as tips or feedback. Thanks for your time.

TL;DR - I am having trouble with the 4 transmitter part of the Cure and looking for some advice, now go read the rest of the post you lazy bum!

My best suggestion is:

Take you time... Keep an eye on the Drones that spawn at the generators, they have a pattern that you MUST know in order to shut the shield down.

Basically we worked like this:

- Activate Generator 1
- Wait for the generator to have charged and jump to the next. Now drones spawn.
- 1: Take out node.
- 2: Take out lesser drones, while a single or two of you keep the workers away from the generator. KEEP THEM AWAY (Photon Grenades, Plasma Grenades close to the generator-preferably at the generator, Tactical Escort, and knockback weapons are key here). Have one of you move to 2'nd generator while this happens.
- 3: As soon as all lesser drones have been taken out, all but one attack the heavy drone. The last one activates the next generator, and starts helping taking out the heavy.
- 4: As soon as the heavy is done, move along to no 3, and start the sequence again.

Go slow, try, re-try and try again untill you have a sence of how the drones spawn. Once you have the feeling, the rest is a cakewalk (The bosses are easier than the one in Infected).

Well, that's it.
We developed a strategy that is quite the same, minor differences. But it took us about what felt like nearly two hours of failing and restarting to successfully deactivate the shield finally. And now it's a first try win, normally.

I'm a tactical officer. I used to not use about half the abilities available to me - PvE was too easy most times. What I personally had to learn was to use about every skill I have in the right moment.

Our setup is, after activating and cleaning transformer 1 and 2, one tac at transformer 1, one tac at transformer 2, one of each, tac, eng, sci, dealing with transformer 3 and 4. It is of major importance to get the timing right - you don't have to reinvent the wheel, use the basic concept Kor_Dahar_Master published here and alternate it so it fits your needs. I really would like to write something like "oh, there is a little secret, turn on that switch over there and all the drones will have half of their normal HP", but, well, there is nothing like that. It REALLY is about timing and having a group that is concentrating on their particular objective. The players I play with complained about elite drones shooting at them "if I don't shoot back, they will kill me eventually!" the first time we tried The Cure. All I could reply was "it's your task to kill workers. don't care about the elite drones" (well, that is only partially true, there are moments during the whole procedure where the team has to deal with the drones but I hope you get the idea behind what I was trying to say).

Ok buddy il try to go through it step by step as my initial guide was maybe a bit vague.

1. Have 1 player assigned to trani 1 and the other 4 spread out around the point the first drones will spawn (so some of you will get flanking shots).

2. Activate 1 and drop all phaser turrets and mortars ect, then as the drones spawn the player assigned to trani 1 should deal with the workers while the other 4 should kill the node then the weaker ftr drones.

3. Kill all but the elite and send the player assigned to 2 to activate 2, move towards 2 with your team while killing the elite and drop more turrets ect near it.

4. As the drones at 2 spawn have the guy assigned to 2 focus on the workers while the rest of you kill the new node and weaker drones.

OK so far you should have a player assigned to 1 who can watch 1 (but can fire at the drones near 2 as well if he is ok to do so), a player assigned to 2 knocking away and killing workers, and the rest of your team should be near 2 killing the weaker drones.

Number 3 is the tricky part.

1. As soon as 3 is able to be activated one player should RUN TO 4 AND GET OUT OF SIGHT, while your engineer/s should drop turrets on the oposite side of the path to 3.

2. Activate 3 after all is in place (it seems long when i type it but all that should take seconds tbh) and DO NOT fire on the drones that spawn (the drones at 3 spawn INSTANTLY the trani activates unlike 1 and 2 that are delayed).

3. DO NOT fire on the ftr drones at 3, in fact you can hide behind a mushroom (at the first set of 4) and on a rock (at the second set of 4) until the workers spawn and then again just focus on knocking them away.

4. As soon as number 4 can be activated the guy should break cover and activate it, then he should focus on knocking workers away as well.

WHO TO ASSIGN AND WHAT THEY SHOULD DO.

Numbers 1 and 2 are reasonably easy as you only need knock away workers really so a tactical guy on these is ok (beam down your escort guys right by the node and there is a chance they will knock away approaching workers as well.. Thinking about it id say the player at 2 could help by being good at hand to hand as he may be left with a elite tac to deal with along with workers.

Either way just remember that most players would need a looooooong time to kill a elite and they do hit hard so knocking him on his butt along with the workers OR drawing him away from you with your tactical guys escorts or engineers turrets (depending on what type of player you have most of) is a good idea.

Number 3 can be a pain and turrets obviously help pull aggro from you help so 2 engineers or 1 engineer and a tac (squad leader and tactical initiative will allow him to beam down 4 excorts to draw aggro but do it after thr drones spawn). Just remember to drop the turrets and security squads so the pull aggro away from the transformer not towards it, so you avoid the scatter shots ect from the borg.

I tend to send the medic to 4 and its a pretty easy job as well, just make sure he does not have aggro or a DOT that prevents him activating the trani.

If there are any other specifics you need let me know.:p
