Long story short..i wasted another 20K merits to change to tranphasic torpedoes. And after toying with some setups i came to oddity in dmg increase, if you use torpedo abilties. Keep in mind, i have 9 ranks in transpashic torpedoes and they are still weakest in terms of dmg/dps compared to "untrained" mk X torpedoes i equiped for testing purpose...
Normal 2991 (285)
HYT1 2577 (473) = 86% dmg to invidual torpedo compared to normal; 166% increase in dps
TSP3 3276 (312) = 109% "aoe" dmg compared to normal torpedo; 109% increase in dps
normal 2925 (279)
HYT1 2520 (462) = 86% dmg to invidual torpedo compared to normal; 166% increase in dps
TSP3 3204 (305) = 109% "aoe" dmg compared to normal torpedo; 109% increase in dps
normal 3798 (447)
HYT1 4229 (950) = 111% dmg to individual torpedo compared to normal; 212% increase in dps
TSP3 5519 (649) = 145% "aoe" dmg compared to normal torpedo; 145% increase in dps
For some unexplained, undocumented reason, quantum torpedoes have odd (very high) bonus to torpedo abilties.
Now its either because:
1. its supposed so (but there is once again no descriptions about it) and the highest dmg torpedoes, with mediocre cooldown haveeven another bonus compared to other, more skill-wise expensive version.
2. for other torpedoes the calculations are bugged, and the torpedoes do not get any bonus, but actually a malus to individual torpedoes. If that is the purpose, it means that not only those "high tech" torpedoes profit less from critscrit severity, but their dmg is also undercut when using BO torpedo abiltites.
3. its just another tooltip error
So my question to the devs is, where is the truth ? Or did i miss something?
Now i would also point out, that max skilled transphasic HYT1 does HALF the dmg of unskilled quantum HYT1.
With native 10% bleedthrough and no other factors taken in account, the quantum HYT1 torpedo will cause 423 hull dmg, while the transphasic 773, which is not even double the amount. The net gain is actualy 350 dmg, while the gain on hitting unshield target is 1652. But thats just my personal rant after wasting yet another 20k merits.
i have wondered about torpedo damage aswell, it always seemed messed up.
i'm a commander 10 atm, and so far i've noticed with projectile weap. 9/9, torps, 9/9 and photon torps 9/9 , my photon torps mk vi do about 4500 a hit, with TS1 they do the same, and with HY1 they do LESS, about 2000-3000 a hit, with chroniton torps mk vi it was about 1900 on HY1 and 2300 a hit normal or with TS1, with quantum torps at 5/9, the quantums mk vi do about the same damage as the photons.
in the skill description i thought it said Hiegh yield torps were supposed to do more damage and spread would do moderate.. but it seams bacwards...
on a similar note, cannon spray seams to also do massive amounts of damage to unshielded targets, vs shielded targets... like 2400 vs 400.
... everything in the skill descriptions is very confusing. while before when i had chroniton torps in the aft with a plasma turret, the turret on spray would do more damage with 60~80 weapon power than a chroniton torpedo mk vi set to normal, HY or TS.... how does that make any sense? turret doing more damage than a torpedo to a target with shields down?! seems logic went out the window!!
I would believe so also, but transphasic do really pitiful dmg. They may have 30% bleedthrough, but they would need like 50% (+40%) bonus, and to have same base dmg as chronitons to be on equal usefull level to quantums.
