# 1 Federation PvP

Feels good to play as nothing more than game content for Klingons. OMG I shooted at a Klingon, whats he do? 1.) Cloaks and flees. 2.) Summons a load of ships on my friggin head. 3.) Shoots me with some purple crap that disables me until I can push my Science Team button, and hope to frigging god my autotarget hasn't already reselected him, and it doesn't tick on my ****ing Boarding Team. 4.) Or I get into a PvP match where the Klingons are intelligent and working together. Essentially I feel like content for these guys, and prefer PvP on equal playing grounds. With out the PvP I really don't see much going on in this game, maybe I'll come back with the next content patch. Oh wait, I'm ****ing deaf and can't use Ventrillo so I can't get into a Fleet and do anything like that.

theres now FvF (federation v federation) pvp think it was released with season one, not tried it as theres never more than one or two people in the queue so not sure what its like

FvF should be on more of an even footing but theres still nothing stopping other feds having more powerfull gear than youve got :p

as said there is pvp FvF now.

However, all skills and powers (exception of cloak) that are available to klingons are also available and used by the federation as well.

as a klingon pvp'r i have had that purple stuff thrown at me (viral matrix) by more than one fed player.

i have also pvp's fed vs fed and have also had the stuff thrown at me. here are a couple suggestions to help counter

you already use sci team. if u see the purple dot headed your way, sci team before it hits you. sci team can remove the hold and adds damage resist to you shileds for a time.

if you are in an escort, use attack pattern omega. u can use it while held in viral matrix and makes you immone to holds and gives you a damage bonus.

other things of note - there has been talk of changing viral matrix so it disables a random subsystem that can be removed with eng team or sci team (not sure if they decided on which one).

To the OP,

I played through PvP in SWG and WoW with a friends wife who is nearly deaf and cannot use Vent/TS, she performed amazingly. Your frustrations are obvious, and predominantly based on your lack of experience in STO pvp thus far. As has been mentioned, there is FvF pvp (to remove the cloak advantage as it is perceived) and there is the reality that with experience your knowledge of counters, and successful combinations will improve.

In short, as it is with all things, this initial frustration you are experiencing in STO pvp will pass.

I have played many MMOs with a Roleplaying PvP guild, roleplaying orcs and similar dark races, and we did not use voice comms on purpose. I am sure it would be difficult to concentrate on the kill when you hear a 13 year old (or 65 year old, or any other) try to pronounce our orcish word for "surround" or any other words or phrases often used in battle. So we just decided to never use voice comms, but I can assure you, we were quite competitive in PvP in all the games we played (Shadowclan played UO, ****, WoW, Shadowbane, War, LOTRO, Darkfall).

My point in mentioning that is that I think it would be possible to find a fleet where you could thrive even without voice comms. We often used macro'ed commands/chat text for those kinds of things that need to get communicated quickly and clearly in the heat of battle. Perhaps that is something that could be implemented in your fleet.

using deafness as an excuse for not improving is hogwash. I cannot tell you how insulting it is to the actual deaf people that actually play the game well. It also does not make it impossible to get into a fleet.

I PvP on both sides and reason most Feds suck is that they level via PvE whereas most Klingons level via PvP, so by the time they reach BG (that's admiral to you) Klingon players have fought in literally hundreds of matches and have learned the importance of team work.

A GOOD Fed team is a match for a good Klingon team because actually the Fed ships have several advantages (contrary to what some will say, the BoP is a lousy Sci ship compared to the Fed versions and Fed cruisers and Escorts, at least at Admiral level, give better BOff options)...

...but the sad fact is a typical Fed PUG is full of people who refuse to stick together and then wonder why they get ganked... or who rush into combat at full impulse... alone... and then wonder why they 'splode after two seconds of incoming fire and why their outgoing fire does 10 points of damage if that ... There are some great Fed PvP players out there amidst the sea of mediocrity and ineptitude, so go join a good Fleet and learn the tricks.

I'm really surprised at just how unpopular the FvF is. I was waiting on this so I could get more practice in before I dance with Klingons. Plus... killing Federation is just so much fun

the problem with fvf is that you can only steamroll your opponents so many times before it gets boring.

OP: If you're blaming the Klingon faction for your ineptness in PvP, I suggest taking a long, hard look at your build and equipment, make adjustments, test things out, and get back in the fight.

If you're bad in FvK PvP, what makes you think you'll fare better in FvF?

You still will get smoked by an Escort-type of ship. You're still running off by yourself. You're still not supporting teammates. You're still going to get SNB+VM'ed. You'll still see FBP.

Your performance and improvement as a PvP'er will not improve just by jumping into FvF. Because you will STILL lose to good PvPers and good teams.
