These are being changed, according to the DEVs. There is no ETA on either FBP or the preorder auto-defense turret.

I don't know if this is true for all PVP space engagements, but I have noticed in the last dozen PUG I've been involved in as a Fed, the Klinks in the instance are ranked closely and near the top of the allowed ranked range. Whereas the Feds are average range in the lower ranks, or one higher ranked and the rest spread through the lower.

Fed communication is typically nil, and not focused on one target. Which puzzles me because even in an MMO like WoW, Guild Wars and Everquest, coordinating communication and assists werea big part of the recipe for successful high end raids and Battlegrounds. The Klinks cloaks really aren't the problem, but finding a good group can be, especially during the time of day I get to play.

I really do hope all Fed players read this and learn it well, I need more skilled mates to play with! Otherwise I'll just have to switch sides.

Just a quick question OP, I was reading thru some of your guide and am wandering if I choose to go escort with 100/25/25/50 why would I want to only use 50% shield strength or energy for my shield? I thought the object was for me to stay alive as long as I could and not just be cannon fodder?

Hi there,

At present, shield power only affects regeneration rate (one tick per 6 seconds), which is fairly useless in combat if you cannot survive a focus fire onslaught for 6 seconds. So dumping the remaining power into engines or AUX seems more appropriate, depending on skill investment and ability loadout.

However, Cryptic QA has informed us that they will be making changes to the power systems and, as one example, scaling shield damage resistance with shield power. These changes have not yet been implemented into the game, but, once they are, I will definitely re-word that section of the guide.

Also, as stated throughout the guide, this is not possible against focused fire without the support of your team. The question for each team, however, is how each individual trades off self-survivability for group support. In general, group support will always be favoured more, because group support abilities (such as Extend Shields) have shorter cooldowns and/or more useful effects.

On a side-note, I have updated the guide to include a more detailed section on power level presets.

I will update it again with a brief section on Defense, Accuracy, Crit Severity, and Crit Chance.

I would agree with your statement however I have hidden behind objects then have opping fire go through that obeject and hit me. Some times it woks and other times it does not. Some consistancy would be nice.

Just took a look at this for the first time, great guide Matt.

I'm just hoping that Cryptic takes some steps to move combat back toward the initial "tall ship combat" vision, and away from the "burn-through-shields-and-hull-in-six-seconds" model that we have now.

I've tried loadouts in just about every combination that I can think of, and yes, with cooperation and communication (and the right abilities at the right time) you can take the match (I've won and lost more rounds that I can count) but if you're the target of 2 or 3 escorts, it doesn't matter how much support your side gives you, you still go down. I've also been on the other side, where I've configured a Cerberus (usually I prefer Sci vessels, but the Adv Escort is a lot of fun) that can (if I time it right) take down an enemy escort in about 6 - 7 seconds. It just feels too fast, on either end, giving or receiving.

Anyway, good guide, props to j00.

I am at the max level with maxed out weapons, kits and shields. Can someone explain why the Klingons can kill me with 1 to 2 shots. This is getting frustrating. It is even individuals. I understand the team concept and Feds are awful at staying together. Do they have some sort of special gun or skill that allows them to do this everytime I play certain klinks. I mean, come on, make it at least competitive.

at tier 5 dps has greatly outscaled tanking and healing. a good escort can push well over 10k dps (if not double or triple that without blinking).
