FYI - The white grandfathered consoles are the ones with the most value - They can be transferred to another character or resold on the exchange. The Uncommon or Rare ones remain bound. As for the nerf, I think Cryptic should fix their broken game mechanics before trying to balance anything.

I'm glad the issue is getting discussed, and I do know that it's going to be covered on an upcoming podcast on Neutral Zone (www.neutralzone.net)...

At the same time, it does seem like other issues are getting way more forum time than this nerf. If people could spread the word, especially those of you who have come across this and feel as strongly about how bad of an idea this whole mess is as I do, it would really be great.

In my fleet I've referred to this entire deal as the "Golden Ticket" Issue. While balancing an MMO is always a challenge, at no point is it ever ok to give a class or group of player an unfair advantage.

And while I know that dstahl did give a rationale http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...08#post2523308 for the decision, namely

Quote:
The decision was made high up (and not lightly) to grandfather the existing science consoles and ensure they no longer drop instead of replacing existing consoles on players ships.
that does not mean that it's a good decision that should not be revisited, altered, or completely undone.

The thing is, that's not a rationale, that's saying a decision was taken, not why the decision was taken. Nor why players were not consulted first...

I haven't met anyone that agrees with this change, and I am speaking as someone who borrowed money from friends to buy consoles, I am ok this is not jealously, I just seriously think this is very unfair on new players to make their ships half as effective whilst we get double, and also sucky if you want to make alt characters it's very offputting that you know it will never be as good as your original.

And as Cryptic have said before they actually want people to create alt characters (hence the skill cap too which is a good thing because it protects against the same unfair advantages for people that have been playing longer), because it keeps people playing!

Xakhareth I would vote for you on the council... if only because our other "podcast" representative does not seem to take much interest in us "lowlifes" and "haters" in the forums (which is the same as saying it about STO players on a whole since there's crap all community outside fleets in-game) and does not deign to mix with us instead keeping with their inner circle on their own website...

deathkittin,

you're completely right...it's not a rationale, more a blunt statement of fact.

Points to dstahl for directness, but gosh I'd love to hear why this as-yet-unnamed higher-up made this call.

I don't know any MMO I've played since EQ that wouldn't have it's players /facepalming on this one.

Re: the podcast and Advisory...

It's not a podcast I'm on, I know those who do it since they are fleeties. And, since this whole sci console debacle has been one I've been grousing about in our fleetchat ever since I found out about it, they mention it in their next 'cast.

In the meantime I'm just giving this thread a bit o' a nudge in the hopes that people who feel this whole deal was boneheaded can use this thread to let the devs and Cryptic know that...politely, of course.

That darn Advisory Council....your vote of confidence is appealing, but I'd wanna stay outta that whole deal. Heck, someone would google me and find something compromising I did at some point with my father's razor...

No thanks!

It's a shame realy that so many people are more conserned with things like costumes and wanting new useless bridges

It's a slap in the face to new toons. In stead of fixxing this issue they had a knee jerk reaction again.Sci POWERS to powerful POW zap the new sci consoles. Opps those with old one are still "to powerful".
Tac cannons ships to powerful POW zap EPS Flow Regulator. Opps we slaped everyone.

It's common sence. If something is broken fix it. If it's not leave it alone. Console were not broken , NONE of them.

Correction. The EPS nerf barely slapped escorts at all, at least not compared to the other cannon and tactical skill buffs... my escort admiral does more nastiness than ever. So they're two for two in completely missing the target, there.

It was a horrible decision in Champions. It's a horrible decision in this game. I have a bunch of the consoles and would actually prefer that they get set to the standard values because it basically goes against the point of the change. And instead creates an economic thing instead of a balance thing.

As a player that has mostly all pre-nerf consoles on my ship, I have to agree that all consoles should have gotten the retroactive adjustment.

I have a bad feeling that this thread will probably be ignored, just like the CO threads on similar items were ignored. I think the current stance for the devs is to just wait out the complaints. :/ It's really too bad. Maybe if someone started a poll and we got a lot of votes regarding this issue they'll actually consider changing their decision...

At this point it seems unlikely that they will nerf the existing consoles, or all those people who bought +30 consoles for 5 million will feel ripped off (and I'd hate to think I cheated anyone )
