1) The removal of the scenery/terrain has made the STF completely uninteresting and un-borg-like.
2) The removal of the scenery/terrain has put all the interlink nodes (except for the one that is almost completely submerged under water) in plain, line of sight. This has taken away the fun, and the first time through the challenge, of finding and then fighting/working our way to the nodes through the terrain.
3) The removal of the scenery/terrain has not made the STF any harder. It just made it uninteresting(1), un-fun(2), and easier. Now I'm sure some will come here and say, "NO, it's HARDER", but I disagree. Everything is in plain sight and as we no longer have cover we pull smaller groups, kill them quickly, and move to the next group. Easy as pie, but done in a lackluster environment that is no longer fun.
4) A completely different but related subject, what's with Armek's Marry Poppins maneuver (so dubbed by a fleet mate)? Last night he was within an inch of his life and then transported himself into the air and just sat/hovered there, shooting at us, but out of reach of our weapons -- until he reset. The first 20 seconds or so we getting shot and killed wondering where in the hell he was -- then one us looked up into the sky. And we were not to happy about having to start over (with him), though I guess this was better than not being able to complete the mission.
This is something me and my Borg murdering colleagues had begun to wonder on. We logged in after the aforementioned patch to give Cure another run as we'd been struggling to effectively clear it and some of the changes were shocking - both positive and negative.
On the positive note the changes to the "evil death" set of transformers was muchly appreciated, the first set of four where you all die (and admit it, many of us have been there) making the distance between the third and fourth transformer that bit shorter makes that bit still challenge us, but not so near impossible as it was before - love it.
But the next set of transformers used to have this magnificent view of Borg architecture and bridges and the like - it looked stunning, and as far as I can tell it's been removed...just because - to be honest we talked about bug reporting it but decided to play through again to see if it was permanent, but on time of talking to a few players we found it was indeed permanent so did not bug it. Still, a real shame.
AS for Armenek (sp?) once we got to him the lack of scenary was again noteable - apparently the Borg hold their prisoners in the middle of open caverns, I just can't see the logic here - if people were exploiting Amenek's AI? Alter his AI - the mission used to look beautiful, we now feel like we're running the Gauntlet on Gladiators...
On a more positive note? The space battle at the start of Khitomer is drop dead beautiful - the scale of the planet actually makes me feel tiny...which is what it should do - keep that sort of stuff up guys, it was jaw dropping.
Yes but the mission is still stupidly insipid and irritating, terrain features or no terrain features. I mean..really? The same trick 3 times? Do we really need 3 sets of transformers to make the mission 'hard'? Is this the best ideas we could come up with, lather (scrub harder), rinse, repeat? Where's the creativity in missions that some of them had before. The Cure is a stupid cookie-cutter piece of crap that's not only not fun, but just downright irritating to play. On a wipe, the party has to run ALL the way back to whereever they wiped? No intermediate spawn points? Seriously? And come on...what's with the 'trail' going through this forest and every so often you run into a SINGLE holding cell with a buttload of guards and one dead sample thingy? Just out in the middle of the woods somewhere? SERIOUSLY?!?!?! REALLY!?!?!?! I mean it can't be just me that looks at this and goes...uhm...even for a make-believe game this is completely moronic. I mean...waste of power for all those individual cells, waste of manpower (not to mention the huge roaming squads of borg), the NPC Klingon you set free is tougher and cooler than any PC, the prisoners aren't in a lab or a buidling..just hanging out in the rain in a forest. Oh and lets talk about half the parties cool stuff NOT working (or not working well) because of environment but the borg are fine with it oh and the ELITES can't be killied by just one person and usually take at least 4 concentrating fire on it while it can 2-3 shot anyone pretty much.
And how much more could we go on about with how just plain DUMB this mission is. Any three players on the site could do it better!!!!
