It has come to my attention after months of playing, that there are so many content holes in this game that it makes my head spin. Cryptic continues to ask, "What can we do better", but the reality is that it is so obvious that if they can't see it; they shouldn't be attempting to produce a game like this. Here is a list that would keep me playing...

1. I'm a former WoW player; and while I know that this game is completely different and should not be compared to WoW, there are a few things that it needs from a game such as WoW. One of the things that kept me interested, and even just killing time running around in game, was just looking at and inspecting other players. Everybody in Wow had different gear and appearances; and every day would see a new item or weapon. In STO, everybody's ships look the same, and our characters gear is so limited that it doesn't even matter, and the weapons and gear are so cookie-cutter it's embarrassing...

2. My first item leads into my second. All the ship gear is the same, there are no Unique weapons or equipment. I would Like to see some weapons, shielding, and other equipment that doesn't fall under the common molds. When I was a commander I recieved a Numeri Regeneragtive Shield Array, THAT'S UNIQUE! More of that please. Along with that, please give us the ability to inspect each other's ships and characters.

3. There are so many planets to visit. It's very impressive.... Now all you have to do is give us reasons to be there... Something cool to do on Risa, or a reason to visit Vulcan... SOMETHING. It is a shame that all these places have no purpose... Cities, Villages with specialized crafting instructors, trainers, special shops with really cooll stuff... ANYTHING, SOMETHING.

4. The ground missions are the most horrible thing on earth. they are all the same... How many times do I have to run around and scan 5 things, or kill 5 groups of Klingons on an abandoned base... Even in Space; Enemy confrontation, scan unidentified objects, assist the planet by buying stuff for them.... PLEASE... USE THE GIGANTIC GALAXY YOU CREATED AND ADD SOME VARIETY. Test us! I can blow through any explore missions in about 3-5 minutes without ever even getting close to dying.

5. Too many medals, Badges, marks; AND NO INSTRUCTIONS. Nuf' said.

6. Defeating Klingons in PvP is impossible. They have cloaking and the ability to run away very quickly. I was in a team of 5 RA5s against 2 Klingons... we lost. How are we expected to compete? And don't say "detect Cloak" That don't work. At least give Fed escorts the ability to cloak, OR make the game true to the series and make it so that some Klingon ships Can't cloak.

7. Let me duel my friends... Why is that not in the game already?

I can keep going, but I'm tired of typing. Bottom line, the game feels rushed to release. While I know that's not your fault and there were deadlines, you need to fix it or people are gonna start walking away. There are barely enough people to 5 man STFs. Add some variety, social gathering places, unique items to shoot for, fun stuff to do, and DUELING; then I would stick around.

Everything aside, I still have enjoyed a lot of the game. The space combat is genius... Kudos to making that awesome.

Very very very well said.

Although I don't pvp much at all so I'm not sure on the Fed vs. Klingon pvp stuff.

I would add that I really don't mind the ground missions much. The repetiveness does get old. How about missions where you have to figure out what to do, then complete it?

Other than that I completely agree.

Yes, there you go, hit the nail on the head. But, and follow along here because I'm amazed at the number of folks who didn't see this..

That Was The Whole Idea...

They bought rights to an IP with some pre-written code from other companies, plugged it into their own Generic MMO Engine system, and pushed it out the door knowing the IP would bring in the money.

Cheap, dirty, profitable.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't hold this against Cryptic. In fact, I applaud the move. It will serve as a good example to the industry that smaller, more niche focused game can work in the genre. The initial blast of cash from box sales and launch day subs will carry this game for a very, very long time.

So they minimize initial cost, get the game out there, and finish it while profitting, instead of hemorraghing up cash for 4 years of standard mmo dev cycle all the while facing the looming threat of not hitting subscription levels that justify the time and money spent in development.

The jeers belongs to the player base that didn't see this game for what it was, and now lambast it as being content-less, rushed, unfinished, etc... Well, that was the point there skippy. Give a bare bones experience to the masses and let them bicker and argue over which direction to go, then, try to go that way. Thanks for the cash, give us a year or so and we'll get you some content.

If you want finely polished high end MMO experience, any newly launched MMO is the last place to look. For STO that rule is triple in effect, because it's dev cycle was purposfully cut short.

My beef with Cryptic is definately NOT what this game is right now. It's exactly what I expected. However, each post outlining changes on Tribble and plans for the future make me cringe as to where this game is going to go.

# 5 Fixing things

They do appear to be working on it. Way to slow for most people. The number of programmers they have that able to work on game code on content seem very very small. This point was brought up in a interview with STO. Were having extra ship skin is nice most people want more 5 mans. One Of the ships on my wish list is TOS: Dreadnought. Building a MMO on grafics only has awayed failed. WOW is proof you do not need grreat graffics for a great game.

Try to consider artistic choice and the multiple scapes in STO vs. WoW. ******** you're just "on the ground." In STO, you are represented in space and on the ground. While what you're saying might be viable for hanging out on a Starbase, for space, I don't think it's realistic to see every kind of item on a ship.

While the ship customization could be expanded on, you have to admit it's not too bad.

Personally, I think item whoring is lame and stupid, and want no part in it. The inspect feature of WoW created more egotists than anything.

Well, truth be told, they aren't any worse than WoW. Being a WoW player, you ought to recognize the same tripe over and over again. I actually like the fact not every mission is combat oriented. I don't really care if it's scanning the same artifacts. Sometimes I just want a break from shooting things.

Usually they add small side stories or tidbits of information to those quests. They could add more of that to keep it interesting.

Yeah, some balloon text might be useful there. Maybe an NPC in common star bases to explain what and why.

Uhm, can't say I have this problem really. I haven't done a ton of PvP but it tends to be lopsided, sometimes Feds wipe the floor with Klingons, sometimes the other way around.

You, uh, might be a little rusty on your Trek "lore." Klingon ships cloak. That's just what they do. Yes, even their battle cruisers have cloaks.

Um, no. One of the worst features in WoW, also. Duel spam is awesome. It totally doesn't promote obnoxious and annoying behavior.

Do you just want WOW in space? Sorry, I just don't think you get it.

I uh saw an earlier post saying they are working on it..perhaps not at everyones desired pace but they are. I looked at a calendar they posted and it appears they are already behind on it. Take the blessed thing down if you cannot commit to your own timeline. I do realize things get delayed but for the love of (insert your deity) communicate it....I saw for a while they were all chatty with us...but it appears to have died down somewhat....

The game is err was rushed....nothing I can do about that.....I paid my lifer dues.
The game is lacking.....nothing I can do about that....offer suggestions in appropriate forums...

Seems the only thing I can do is cross my metacarpals and hope they do their thang.

# 8 Things that are missing in STO
04-27-2010, 05:36 PM
1. Decent PvP - what we have makes ********* look like rocket science.

2. A Klingon faction that had at least 1/2 the content of the Federation faction. (Content = PvE + PvP + customization.) The disparity is getting WORSE with every update.

3. A different game engine. Really!

4. Decent crafting (for both factions).

5. A decent player economy (the exchange is a fraking joke).

If they can fix all the above in 5 days I might not quit.

Good luck. I hope you can find happiness wherever you go from here...

But considering history, I don't see you being happy with anything else, either

Thanks for the replies. I only have one response to one of the posts... No, I do not want WoW in space, I understand that premise is different; however, as I said, there are things from WoW that this game needs. WoW had millions of subscribers, they must have had the right idea. I just know what made the game fun; and the things I pointed out are not major things. Also, about the PvP; I am not part of a Fleet due to the fact that every Fleet I have joined only has a max of 3 people on at a time... Most of my PvP matches are pickup. PvP is a game of angles right now. If you can decloak on the side and on a higher plane than your enemy, you win... I don't care how good you are. Not to mention, the Klingons win so much that they are geared to the teeth and most Feds are not. I'm not arguing, just stating fact.
