# 1 First Person play
04-21-2010, 05:57 PM
This has probably been brought up before, but i could not find a thread on this subject, so I made one. Sorry if it is already a thread somewhere.

Play in first person.

I enjoy making videos and screenshots and sometimes, in fact most of the time, I would like not to see my own ship, as I wish the subject to be off-center in the screen. In most games, I solve this by moving into first person and act as a cameraman shooting other players.

So far, I have found the only way to get a first person view is to back into a wall or asteroid, but as I pan, my ship or character moves into view and messes up my shot.

Is there any way to move into first person view and if not, could that be a possibility in the future?

Thanks and fly safe..:-)

1st person view requests pop up on the forums about once a week. No official word from Cryptic about it yet, as far as I know.

But yes please, allow us to zoom in to first person view on ground combat. I don't care if it's not 100% perfect, just let us zoom all the way in.
It's not like the tech is not there. In ground, if you move close to a wall, you get a 1st person view anyway. Sure, the weapons you're holding sometimes appear floating in the air, but those are little things that can be fixed later.

Just let us zoom all the way in. It would make the game a helluva lot more immersive.

Same goes for space. A couple of different optional camera positions would be nice. One in front of the disc, sorta like a "bumper cam", and one on top of the disc over the observation dome.

Sure they would make space combat a bit more difficult, but I'd be willing to sacrifice that for a decent 1st person view.

Above poster has my full support, lol. We won't be seeing our weapons anymore but the beams or bolts still, that would be ok for me and it frees up some frames as well because our own high detail character doesn't have to be rendered anymore. I so want closer viewpoints in space also, as a.p. said, a top of saucer cam would be nice. Looking down and back would require a camera jump to lower saucer then but that's not hard to accomplish. This shouldn't be done via zoom, just by repositioning the camera.
The goal is to get a better feeling of actually being in my ship. Right now i feel like i am remote-controlling my ship like a toy plane. Especially the smaller craft like Bird of Prey or some escorts get really small on the screen because we have to zoom out a lot in order to get a playable view. This makes estimating distances very difficult and furthermore the action is too far away to be enjoyed.

First person view would be pretty cool for ground missions and such.

I want to add my support for the 1st person view for STO. It is my point of view that the gameplay should be as realistic as possible, so operating from the first person in ground combat and from the bridge would fulfill a void sto currently endures. It is my hope that Cryptic will abandon the puppet and bring about true roleplaying. I hope. I hope. I hope.
