Why can i use all the powers of my bridge officers in a ground mission but i cant access all their abilities in space?

I have some skills that would be very handy in a space battle but i cant use them because the only bridge stations i have for them only allow their first or second tier skills. Its extremely aggravating when u spend all those points to find out later you cant use it. Some of those skills would come in very handy for some of the space battles in the STF's. I understand their attempt to stay true to form with an actual balanced crew ranks but when it seriously impeded gameplay it needs to be omitted. You spend all that time and skill points developing a solid bridge crew only to have half or more of their skills unusable.

I believe their goal is to get you to make hard decisions about the kind of ship you fly.

By the time you're an admiral you will have enough BO points and Merits to fill out a crew multiple times over. Discharge them all. And do it again.

They already do that with the amount of stations you get. Escourts get more tactical. Science get more science stations and so forth so why limit the one or 2 officers you get for some stations to 1 or 2 skills. Thats like saying "You can have bridge officers but they have to fly it with one eye closed and one arm tied to their back".

Seriously impedes gameplay? I barely find my gameplay impeded at all in space. Do I wish I had a couple more Science skills in combat? Sure. But I command an escort. I'm not expecting my sciences suite to be up to par. It's not what this ship was designed for. Now, on the other hand, do I wish I could run with Attack Pattern: Omega III and Cannons Rapid Fire III at the same time? Heck yeah. But that's the trade off.

Still, space combat is way easy, even given these... "restrictions". Gameplay is hardly what I would call "impeded".

I agree normal space combat is not impeded by the setup. I mainly see the difference in the STF's, certain skills are realy helpfull against borg vessels and i have the officers with the skill but since they can only access their 1st or 2nd tier skill i have a skill that is pointless to poor points into. I cant even get a level 1 in the skill because you have to access at least commander level to use it.

Their goal is to get you to make hard decisions about the kind of ship you fly. They do this in multiple ways. You cite another of the ways they do this. They use more than one tool at their disposal.

That does not change their goal. That they have multiple variables and factors pressuring you into making such a decision speaks more to the inevitable conclusion that ...

1- This is very much intended.
2- This is not likely to change.

You may want them to make your gameplay easier.

But that isn't much of a good reason for them to do so. It means you are less likely to stick around. Less likely to make an alt. Less likely to continue to play.

It may look good on lt. level. But once your reach RA it would be dissasterous.
