How often do the procs proc? According to the tooltips it is 2.5%, or 1 in 40.

So many words and so much passion for something that is so rare.

Tetryon eat shields? LOL

Got mathed!

-80 shields @ 2,5% on a 7k-11k Shield? whats that? around 1% more Damage only on Shields? If u want Damage use DIsruptors! Tetryon is a waste of skillpoints!

60 Dot per second on a 35k hull ?

WITH the common ability to mitigate it before it runs a full course ?

TS A/S/W/E + Polaron = System drops either from drain or the actual subsystem failure

2.5% proc PER weapon - with 3 - 6 energy weapons being fired

My Escort gets procs quite frequently, enough that I 100% take down a shield with TSS + Polarons and it only takes 1 proc for that to happen on NPCs.

I dont even have TSSIII, only II so I would expect that to be even more effective at the drain. Although once the shields down it dosent matter since your now chewing through hull faster than any Plasma DOT will accomplish.

I like both tetryon and plasma, but I personally prefer disruptors. Why? For the same 2.5% proc chance I have with most other damage types, I get a 10% damage resistance debuff on the target that everyone gets to enjoy for 15 seconds. I don't understand how any of the other options could possibly top that unless you're willing to accept the inflated cost of the Polaron or Anti-Proton skills.

Energy weapons
Phaser: 2.5% chance to disable a random subsystem
Disruptor: 2.5% chance to lower the targets damage resistance by 10% for 15 sec
Plasma: 2.5% chance to apply a non-stacking damage-over-time debuff
Polaron: 2.5% chance to reduce all enemy subsystem power levels by 25
Tetryon: 2.5% chance to deal additional shield damage
Antiproton: Shield Penetration

Kinetic weapons
Photon: 50% chance -20 Able crew
Quantum:10% chance -10 Alive crew
Plasma: Chance to apply Fire damage to hull for 10 sec
Transphasic: Increased shield penetration
Chroniton: -100% Flight Speed and Turn Rate for 10 sec
Tricobalt: Disables targets for 2 sec

actually chroniton mines are nice in pvp for their movement debuff which is great if you don't have a tactor beam. Quantum mines with crit chance are evil. transphasic are nice vs rsp chainers.

Q: Why are plasma weapons so cheap?
A: Because they don't do crap.

I can understand not using plasma torps since they're so slow, but personally I love my plasma beams.
the DoT damage is so, so small----even with its stacking.

example:::

hit someone with a small stick with itching powder --small sharp pain w/irritating sting
or
a 10 lb brick

all this is true. One problem, most things die before the 15 sec debuff even makes a diff.

Get mathed!

Many players in game get the [Dis] attribute on their hull (eng. console) or shield slot for this reason. Either/or reduce damage by 20% from disruptors. Even if you crit, that's still 10% less base DPS. Disruptors are far too common in PvP and most Klingon ships in PvE.

While Tetryon does not scale well to RA, very few people spec against [Tet] damage - hence the reason people still flock to it. Also, one of my tetryon beam arrays has a 10% critical rate.

I'd say Polaron are good bet as their critical reduces power all around.

One great thing about STO is that if there's a favorite damage type from players or the NPCs, you have a reasonable chance of spec'cing against it.
