Basically its about the invasion of Star Warsian fantasy into the Star Trekian Sci-FI realm, and how I though this MMO would have followed that original time line, sans the 2009 changes.

I have never liked the fact that Sci-Fi has been lumped in with Horror and Fantasy. I understand why, but I don't like it.

I would be concerned that even the "Diplomatic" missions will be chock full of combat.

I was on a Lieutentant mission last night. you warp in, and find another Federation ship having power troubles. So, they ask you to pick up their mission, escorting scientists around the nebula to take scans. I found myself really enjoying this, the slow paced fly around and look at things and scan them. Until I got to the third spot....

Low and behold, I'm attacked by enemy ships!!!!

Seriously, can Cryptic just not do a single mission that doesn't involve shooting someone? (yes, I'm aware they have a very small handful of non-shooting missions. I'm being a tad bit fecitious)

So until I can experience the diplomatic system and it's new missions, I'm not holding my breath that it will be any better than the current offering of so-called non-combat missions.

What's needed, as I and other have said before, is a more interactive system of doing other things. I mean, a fight, where you have to do several things, is far more engaging than scanning an object, which involves "Press F." Hopefully the upcoming minigames will improve on this.

I also did the "missing kemocite" mission last night out at SB 114. Now that, was quite the fun mission, a great example of how all aspects of desired gameplay can be satisfied.

For those who don't know that mission:

You start by beaming down to the Starbase to investigate a missing shipment of kemocite. you run around looking for clues.

Then, you beam up to your ship and investigate the freighters circling the station.

When you find the one, he runs off, and you give chase. You find their base, and defeat a group of the smugglers in space. Then, you beam down to their hideout, and you recover the missing shipment, and capture the criminal.

A perfectly designed, and well scripted/written mission, which should be the standard to asipre to, rather than the oddity that you find only once in a blue moon.

That is a nice mission layout...

But this getting forced into the Arenas and PvP garage is not nice. But it seems I have to do this to level up and get more non-combat missions.

I can never do the arenas, simply because there are not enough people on the servers!

I mentioned this in a thread some Cryptic marketing whiz closed it before it could even get a conversation going. I thought that is what the forum was for!

Anyways, I really hope that someday we of the real timeline are listened to, as the 2009 timeline will not be sustained for a long time. Eventually Spock has to fix all this and return to the 24th century...

Remember those choose your own adventure novels, the kids books. That would be easy enough for cryptic to do. You go to a planet for deplomacy and you have three choices, choose one path and the episode goes one way, choose the other and it goes a different way. And all road don't have to leed to rome. If you make too many bad choices you fail the mission. Choose the best choices all the way through and you get additional rewards. Make one mistake but still complete the mission and you get the standard reward. Fail the mission and it costs you xp or credits or something like that.

If they made them very detailed with half a dozen different endings, that would be awsome.

Fortunately, your fear is unfounded:

"FDX (Fed Diplomacy Experience) is a unique rankup separate from your normal skillpoints. As you perform non-combat mission in STO, you gain FDX. An accolade tracks your progress and as you reach each new level in the FDC, you unlock a new Diplomatic reward. These range from badges, to uniform options, to other special rewards. You will *not* need to grind any combat missions to increase your FDC rank."

"FDC ranks are independent accolades you achieve for completing non-combat missions, so you can rank this up independently at any level."
