What if we could truely customize our ships for our style of play? After playing around on Tribble and checking out the new retro-fit ships, I have come to the conclusion that I will be staying in my old Fleet Escort. To me not a single one of the retro-fit ships fits my style of play. I am also disappointed that the Klingon Faction gets a single ship and it is the least played ship of the faction.
As a RA/BG (soon to be VA/LG), I would have much rather seen the ability to really make ones ship uniquly(sp) one's own.
I had an Idea. What if they made 4 VA/LG missions, each of these missions gives out a upgrade to your ship. Say one mission can add an extra weapon, one can add a single power from a diffrent Character build trait pool(so say Im and Eng, I could get a Tac ability), A upgrade to a single BO (as in raiseing your lowest BO power by one, so a Ensin becomes a Lt)or changing a BO slot to one of your choice, so I can drop a tac guy for a sci Bo and how about a mission that increases your hull by 2-4% or so.
Now all of these would make your ship Ubar Powerful.. thats why you can only do one or two of these misison. So you have to choose what fits your style of play best.
Just my two cents. I happen to think the more you can make the game fit you your style of play the happier everyone wil be.
Something else. We have a very limited color palette for the base color of our ships. I would like to see this expanded also. Why not let people fly around in a Hotpink with green Orion markings GalX if they want?
I would love if they implemented it imagine pvp, You really wouldn't know what the other guy is sporting as you do now, it would open the door for so much more player customization options!
agreed... retrofits for all classes would be awesome. It would certainly add to the diversity of the ships you see flying around and everyone would be able to pick their fav ship to command... which is why (at least with me) I was so excited about this game to begin with. Now I'm lucky... I LOVE the Sovereign... but what is my fav Star Trek ship was the Akira? or the Constitution?
Im not asking for more refits... I want to Customize the ship I have now.. Why would I want a refit of the Kling Captain BoP?? so i can look EXACTLY like everyone else?? Right now I at least have 2 diffrent skins to chose from. In other MMo's you can dye your armor just about any color you want.. you can mix and match it to fit your taste. I would like to be able to do that with my ship.
I want more skins for Kling boats.
I want to make my Boat Mine.
I mean how hard would it be to make some missions that give you these kinds of bonuses?
Hell I would make them Hard multi-missions that might take days or even weeks...
But once i got them done.. Its my boat and no one would have something exactly the same.

See...the colour restrictions are intentional. In the TV shows and movies, Federation ships are all shades of blue-grey. Klingon ships are grey or green. We're not allowed to use other colours for the main hull because those colours aren't used in Star Trek.
Now, this ain't just the game devs being mean to players. A lot of the restrictions we have are from CBS, the owners of the Star Trek Franchise. In fact, CBS didn't want to let us customize our ships at all. Apparently they were all "players can swap parts? HELL NO". The reason we have ship customization at all is because the devs pushed for it. They were all "hey, CBS, we really need to let players customize the ships". And CBS gave in.
Now...the Klingon ships have a lot fewer customization parts. They should have more. This is true. Hell, I'd like to see more parts for Fed ships as well. And there's nothing stopping the devs from adding more. They just need time to make new parts. And right now the artists that make ships are focusing on improving the currently existing ships in-game to make sure they look more like the TV shows and movies.
Why are they doing this? Because a lot of players have complained the ships don't look enough like the ones from the shows and movies. These are the same players that support the restricted colours for ships. The Star Trek fans are a really powerful lobby in this game. Sure, a wide range of colours is an MMO thing. But a lot of people who play this game are Star Trek fans first, MMO players second.
