Please anyone that cares for PvP please help the developers see that we need a more engaging and exciting PvP. I think this could start with 1 vs. 1, with brackets based on a count of how many green items, blue items, pruple items a each player has equiped... so there could b a bare minimum 1 vs. 1 to show off who really understands the gameplay that the DEVELOPERS had intended for (i.e. Escort ships should not be invinsible). Maybe a no holds bar type for any and all to compete against anyone to see just how much tactics weigh as opposed to gear (for their playstyle). And more inbetween.
Overall I'd say that the gameplay is very engaging but from a person that started playing MMO's because of Ultima Online, I misut say that the diversity in items (or lack there-of) might make this hard to accomplish. However, if people stoped complaining about "balance" (and just learned how to play a class the way it was ment, whether that way has a broad spectrum or a simple "1 way only" kinda feel to it...) and focused more on the fact that yes rock ALWAYS beats paper so I'll throw scissors next time!
Maybe a PvP gameplay mode that allowed you to switch from 1 set-up (ship, weapons, BO's, abilities, etc..) to another on respawn. This would introduce the FPS feel were yes guns are overpowered but they have their counters. Possibly a PvP mechanic that indroduced a system were Escorts beat Science, Science beats Cruiser, and Cruiser beats Escorts, were-in you recieve a 10 % bonus against your lesser, and 5% decrease against your better.
Now we have
-More science officers to help out with tactical gameplay.
-Healers that focus on distracting and tanking because they do more dmg to Escorts.
-Escorts are no longer the only primary choice in class.
-Overall effect that makes the game "feel" more trechie and also more enjoyable.
More proof?? Really? RANT!?!?!
In Dungeons and Dragons (the original paper and pen game) the DICE ROLLS ruled the game. Fairness was based on everyones random chance of rolling a 1 with the 1d20... Thats why the weapons with +3 were goddly. A dynamic system need maybe 10000 as the max roll, 5 skill systems (help me, hurt them, make my "x" better, make your "y" worse, and bonus) that add or subtract from the "base diffuculty" (the number your have to roll with your 1d10000, or a 10,000 sided die...), and items that add bonuses to the "base diffuculty" slider in the equiping players favor.
I would rather have 10 hit points and dodge and dance with an opponent then have 100000000000000 hit points and get smashed for 50000000 a hit. Heals are worth 1 (crit 2-3), damage is 1-2 with no crit, and the percent to hit is LOW enough to make it a game of luck and chance were I watch eagerly to see if I'm going to win or loose, not weather i do 99999999999999999999999999999999999999 damage (against an enemy with 10-20 times that amount of health. It just feels like a gimmick, mine is bigger!
Now for the fair... this means i could, in theory, kill a max level player at level 1... not fair? Well if presidents of the US can get assassinated then im pretty sure all the defense in the world is not enough to solidify "safety". Wat would make it fair is the DODGE rating of these players.... because i have a 1/10,000 chance he has a 8,000/10,000 chance to hit.... NO MORE 5000d2 rolls PLEASE. No guarantees accept that 1is rock bottem and that anyone can hit rock bottem!
I don't know about everyone else but I DONT want to pay a monthly subscription for a game thats easy and a "1 time play through". I want excitement farther from a normal game that is a time killer. I made it to captain in this game 2 weeks into my 30 retail subscription... I dont think thats very balanced or fair. I am a huge fan of ST:TNG and MMO's and I would like to see more of both of these aspects present. Everyone in space doesn't need to be the same level (admiral or noob)... i have a fleet with all the people I've encountered in my travels.... theres 16 of us including myself... now i guess maybe 10-15 people refussed to join but come'on i only need 9 levels to hit admiral and im really not looking forward to it. I killed 2 hours talking to a klingon in the captains table about how theres nothing to do... this isnt the new facebook. (convo was cool tho dude, not hating just observing)
I don't know why everyone wants 1 v 1. Its never going to be balanced, even remotely so. A lot of the 1 on 1 situations I have gotten into are stalemates. Even escort v. escort can end up as a stalemate.
But I support the option all the same, not that I would want to bother with it.
I would like to see Andoria turned on.....its there for 1v1 ground duels. They just need to flip the switch. :p
I have been patiently awaiting this since it first appeared in Beta. It would be fun to duel your fleetmates/friends/consenting random players.
If all "1v1 this is OP" feedback will be ignored, i guess there is no problem with it. But it should get separate subforums, so the QQ about "imba" ships or builds doesnt infest rest of the forums.
this for the 1 vs 1 feedback has done much bad to pvp in many mmos, it is called multi player for a reason there should be balance be at, still I would enjoy a 1 vs 1 match as they are good to test your skills or a new build.
deuls are not about balance they are about fun... how close can i come to beating a force that should beat me.... how well do i know my class against this newbie can i still prevail?? does it have to be about balance is my question?? ROCKS, PAPER, SCISSORS.... sometimes u will be outmatched... dogs and cats for instance... dogs have their mouth cats have that plus their mauling ability.... therefor evolution (or god, whatever) taught dogs to roll in packs..... what teaches game play bettter; tailoring to the complaints that i cant beat this/do that, or to force players to accept certain weaknesses and force grouping to stay alive... that is in effect what PvE strives to achieve (in a good game). if it could just translate to PvP.
thank you! fun tops all... loosing is part of the game but to put it simply if i can have a DPS class that was harder to level or a healer that was easy to level isnt that the choice that affects why someone would want to put in that kind of work? PvE should dictate a players level of dedication... esspecially since dieing doesnt penalize a player at all... free ship repairs at the station is great tho!
but if PvP were to penalize you for dying somehow like damage debuff or damage resisance debuff... maybe 30 sec that stacks on each death... so if you die 2 times within 30second you have debuff for 90 sec...
but ya SCREW BALANCE if its at the COST OF FUN!
if being a admiral tactical officer takes you 3x longer because you die in PvE more then thats why they have a LITTLE more firepower... thats like saying well james bond shouldnt be able to do that.... a regular person couldnt do that... well this game places the character in a NON REGULAR persons shoes...
I dont want to be invinsable all the time... or even on purpose.. let it just happen. like the addition of PvP with commanders and admirals was a great idea.. i remember my 3rd match i saw a guy streak across with brace for impact and i didnt have it yet... it was epic to see the ability in use.
duels allow a local event. too show off as well as have fun. inspire other players to start a new character in your likeness...... it motivates replay and socialization.
Just let us create custom matches and start them with as few people as we want or as many people as we want. IF the parameters don't meet a certain requisite then we don't let certain rewards for it, simple as that.
