i came up with an idea in another thread

but if no one wants to read it, its basically once you hit fleet admiral you are able to play a sub game like an RTS (similar to the star trek armada game) where you build a fleet up and fight against the computer or other players. The idea is to make fleet admiral really special by opening up a new type of game.

so at the moment we have ground combat, space combat and then this would be fleet combat involving much more strategy.

again i have concerns about not allowing everyone access to the fleet adm rank. in terms that might get thru.
what if rear adm was a limited rank? with the logic here capt would goto capt115 and rear adm would still be ra5. i get ra5 and you get capt15 same number of levels but one big thing is the gear. i can use bigger better tougher ships, have access to more skills, equip ra cons, weapons, shields, engines.
you at capt15 can not equip any of the equipment that i can. i will be tougher to kill than you, i will out damage you. does that seam right to you?
i agree that the fleet adm rank should be harder to get but should be open to all or there will be problems. the vet reward idea at least will ensure that someone cant get to the top rank in a week. but the talk of "fleet leaders" needs to be adressed only after we have fleet content in the game. right now there is no reason for a player to join a fleet.
vet reward it to days played on the character. not the account.

I don't know or care much what Fleet Admiral does, if it is going to be a special rare rank, because I'll probably never get it. However, you can't go out giving the rare FAs some super awesome stuff that makes them better than everyone else. No one wants to PVP and find a FA on the other side and then realize they are just screwed, for example.

Something cool, something rare, but not something that makes them better than everyone else.

I've already voiced my distaste for the current ranking system but. . .My biggest concern is that if a FA rank does go in it not be required that you participate in a lot of PvP. . .for those who prefer PvE it should still be accessible.

You're assuming that rank and grades have to be tied into one another.

That would be a good thing, because I'm not a fan of loads of rear admirals running around either. Again, equipment/skils need not be tied in with rank.

I disagree with almost everything said.

Fleet Admirals
1. Should be able to have a 3 Ship escort comprised of your other ships and your BOs and or NPC
2. Should be able to have there own Star Base if they command a fleet at this rank.
3. These Star Bases should be able to be attacked and raided by opposing forces/ they will have and npc staff but they will be able to be taken over by opposing factions. (Borg, Klingons, Romulans, or whoever) NPC or opposing faction. or Federation war games between fleets.

I like your idea. however, I too think that FA shouldnt just be earned by skill points. accolade completion, elite item acquisition, and maybe even diplomacy xp should each take a part in building that grand rank.

Plus, where would they put all these bases? unless FA is as hard to reach as the above posts have been saying, the galaxy will quickly fill out with bases, and I find it could get redundant. but, it would be cool if other factions could capture ur base, or vica-verca. [except, if they did that, they would have to open up the Klingon Kronos sector {or whatever its called... their homesector} so that the fed could raid their bases]

I think that the Fleet Admiral base idea is a cool idea for maybe season 4... if even that, but to put it on the map right now seems a lil early to me... However, this base idea would also draw fleets closer to each other, as they would have to rely on each other for support and protection in defending or raiding. This could be an opportunity to show how powerful each fleet is.
