I won't spell out all the problemw with the current memory alpha crafting. That horse has been beat.

However, with the new philosophy of our wonderfull dev team about fixing broken things and what not while putting major expansion on slower burner I came up with an idea. A complete ground up rework of crafting could be considered a major project. However what I propse takes a few shortcuts while, I think, making crafting vialbe.

Its simple really.

Crafting allows you to upgrade an item.

Bascially white beomce green and green becomes blue and blue become purple. The different recipes would allow you to add one of the abilites in game already. Purples items would be special in that you could add one more propert to them.

As an examle I have a blue covariant shiled with capx2, and I have a recipe and the ingredient so I can upgrade it to a purple with capx3 or perhaps add regen to it or whatever every already existing shield property I choose. This allows you to create advanced equipment not otherwise in the game. As crafting should be.

Now the Klingons will scream bloody murder on this so I haven't forgotten them. They should be given a "technology of the conquered" ability. Basically anytime they defeat someone with an upgraded item there is a small chance upon defeating them that they woud get such item as well. No worries Feds don't actually loose it cause that would be really unfair. This gives Klingons a chance a getting these upgraded items as well.

Not too bad there with this idea.
You could earn schematics, even attempt to reverse engineer a loot item to get the replication data for your ship's replicator (for ground stuff), ma for ship equipment (maybe) and esd for modify your ship stats possibly with a system like this (not over the top stuff) just to tweak your rig.

Its an area that can open up alot of possibilities for alot of fun for people that like making stuff in games like these. With reverse engneering and schematic loot drops you also compliment Klingons and future factions.

Maybe anomolies are used for something else and you need certain components out there from loot to add to your replicator to produce something? Would open up the exchange more for trade as well. Just some more ideas there.

Maybe the Engineer career is the career for crafting and the Science career deals with anomolies for something else, maybe, crafting new types of hypos or something for buff/ debuffing? Tactical maybe specialises in some other type of craft activity.

That's a good idea for a new system.

Personally, I think they should cap Memory Alpha off and give a reward for maxing it out and then say they'll add a brand new crafting system when they can get around to making it good but that Memory Alpha is done and they're moving on with something better, eventually.

In the meantime, have a very special BO, a transwarp to Memory Alpha, and a title if you choose to complete it. But they have other fish to fry and won't do crafting until they can properly focus on it, after a long list of more pressing priorities like bugs and Klingon content. And that when they do it, it will be a new system but that the current system is shelved, thanks to those who tried it.

They probably will come close to scrapping the whole thing and starting over. I just thought my idea would save them some time and actually be usefull.

It's a great idea, but I'd prefer to see the upgrading be a bit more Faction-based than this (yes, I wrote about it in a rather long post: http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...d.php?t=177293 ).
Such that, for the Federation side, you would have more of a focus on the damage types for phasers and photon based weaponry, various shield, various engine, various sensors, etc. , ... Less of a focus on the other weapon damage types.

For the KDF the weapon damage type focus would be Disruptors and Photon damage types.

For both sides, it would be happening to have a recipe for each individual attribute upgrade and then go on from there. So, it would be possible to get a purple Dual Phaser Beam Bank Mk __ (Acc) (Dam) (CrtD) as an example. Maybe with the restriction that you'd only be able to do these upgrades on the even numbered versions of said item?

Wouldn't "in accord with the new philosophy" involve the C-Store somehow?
