# 1 Refund for Mercenary Gear
09-11-2010, 01:48 AM
So I bought the Mercenary Gear for my Klingon Liberated Borg... but it doesn't give me the uniform choice!

I've since heard that it was a Fedo-only item, but it was not masked in the C-Store with "restricted" like the golden tribble, federation ship costumes, etc...

Since you're letting Klingons pay for things they can't use, you need to refund me my points and mark it "restricted" or unlock it so that klinks can wear it around too.

The C-Store sells the Mercenary Set for clothing options to Klingons but does not give Klingons new uniform options... if it doesn't work it should be "Restricted"... give me my cryptic points back!!

Well most players still have fed characters, and even then these uniforms dont seem to be able to be worn by BO's. I do agree however, that if your intent was to have a klink wear it then a refund should be given, but Crytpic will probably ask for proof of intent

Try sending customer services a mail, their unlikely to do it over the forums...

Anyway good luck on your crusade!

I'll quote what I posted in another thread:

All content is available to all players...you just have to have a character on both sides, which is the way this game is designed (you MUST make a Federation character, KDF doesn't open until your fed is level 6).
Basically, you DID receive what you purchased.

The point you miss is that ever other restricted-use item is limited in the C-Store to only those that can use is... Klingons can't buy the Golden Tribble, Fedos can't get the Pet Targ, all races' L51 ships are restricted to the proper faction AND level, similiarly bridges and ship costumes are restricted to only feds or only klingons, as appropriate.

The merc gear is the only item that's restricted in usage (fedo only) but not in purchasability (everyone).

this is true about the intrepid bridge pack also which i purchased. awesome bridge, however officers spawn in pillars, stand on consoles, stand on seats, hover in mid air, half imbeded in computers and it's been like that since it came out. "basicaly you did recieve what you purchased"
in real life if you purchase something broken or something mis-labeled and can't be used, you are able to exchange it or get your money back for it.

I can see your point about having it show up as 'Restricted' for Klingon players (and I agree with you that it should), but if you read the description of the Costume Set (both in-game and on the C-Store web page) it clearly states:

"Purchase of this option unlocks these costumes for every Federation character on an account."

So, while I do agree that they shouldn't even have it purchasable while on a Klingon character, I don't think that Cryptic will give you a refund. I only say this because I think that's how Cryptic will treat it, unfortunately.

It's curious though...why don't all the humanoids in the game share costume options? It's not obvious that there are different models for any species...they all have the same body sliders, poses, etc. And costumes don't include head gear.

So it is strange that everybody can't use all costumes (including BOs.)

Regarding refunds - I have no idea if Cryptic does that, but they won't do it on the forums. Billing is probably the group responsible for such things.

I think there are actually some subtle difference you can see even in the interface. But why that leads to the underlying system to work differently I don't get either. Maybe it was convenient or a good idea at some point. The different factions allow different uniform options (like badges, rank insignia, armor, gauntlets etc.). Maybe that makes them fundamentally different in some way.

I kinda wish they find a way to "harmonize" the different factions (under the hood and transparent to us - I don't want to lose options!) so they can easily transfer any Fed option to Klingons and vice versa.

I have to agree with Sharkball on this one; if the KDF player can't wear it, it should not be an option in the C-Store. Resorting to the description of "wearable by all Federation characters" (or however actually worded) as a disclaimer is a bit of a copout, IMO. Otherwise, why not unlock all the purchasables for any character, whether they can use/equip them or not, and let "caveat emptor" be the rally cry?

Besides, Cryptari already has the IRL cash, which will not be refunded... let the player have his C-points back.

I think the difference is the way certain unlocks work from the technical perspective. You can buy ship costumes regardless of which faction you are on. Costumes aren't "claimable". They unlock an option in costume/ship editor and work account-wide, an individual character doesn't have the information "can use item X), it's the account that has.
Claimable items go to a specific character - unlocked for your account, but given to a specific character, thus requiring all the data of that character and manipulating it (to add the item.).

It might be something to look into, locking out costume choices based on your active character. But then, it adds the "hassle" of having to switch to the right character before you can buy something.
