My early impressions are that pugs are supporting eachother more now - which can only be a good thing.
I played quite a few pug games yesterday, and I almost fell off my chair when I started receiving ET's and HE's.
As for it not feeling Star Trek, I can see your point Az, but can't see a practical alternative - if we took that to an extreme, we could say that all combat should be done from the bridge only via voice command, the Feds should always win in the end, and the captain always gets the green girl. (hang on, that bit doesn't sound bad)
On the other hand, I think that the weekly episodes DO have that trek feel to them, and are very popular for that very reason. I can't really see how that could be translated to PvP without reverting to Miranda Vs Miranda style combat.
PvE is different from PvP bro, for battles are much more faster and intense. But Tier 5 PvP is no different from Star Wars. Escorts, BoPs, and Raptors seem more like fighters than starships.
And lets not forget people wanting player crews. Given the fasts pace of battle, there is no possibility that could ever happen. But could you imagine if the crews were the ones responsible for Hull and Shield repair and not abilities or shared abilities? It would really change the dynamics of PvP.
