So I'm trying to learn to play against carrier swarms. I've retrained some backup bridge officers with an AOE focus; a tactical officer with Torpedo Spread and FIre at Will, an Engineer with Eject Warp Plasma 3, etc. The idea is that when I see I'm facing a team with 3 or more carriers I can switch to something better able to control the swarms.

The problem I have is that it takes several minutes to rearrange my power tray after switching BOs. The alternative is ti use one of the smaller power trays, where the BO portraits with their powers are displayed, but that screws up my reaction times dramatically. I normally use the mouse to click abilities quite often in PvP, but I also use keys 1-6 (with ctrl and alt) quite a bit for vital abilities, but I'm not aware of how to assign those abilities when using the trays that automatically change with BOs. Additionally, that interface is just way too spread out for me to visually track my cooldowns and ship status.

So is their a faster way to to switch BOs and getting their powers assigned hotkeys in a way that makes sense? Or at least just not scattered randomly around the tray?

I'm actually more frustrated at trying to adjust my play than I was at losing to stacked carrier teams. I know there's got to be a way to swap BOs around after seeing what sort of team you're facing, but I can't figure it out.

I am suffering similar issues, although mine is compounded by the fact that I use key binds. As such if i change BO's I HAVE to ensure that the same skills go back in the exact same slots or my binds get messed up.

It is an awful shame that we are currently required to run different skills depending on if we are fighting klinks or feds due to the recent w@nk-fest of pet lovers ( I fly a Negh'Var klink side myself so am not part of that crowd). Though I am now trialling a new setup that should work equally well against both.

For the most part, when I was using different BOFFs , I ensured that only one skill was different, and spread the changes over 1 or 2 BOFFS. E.g one had Sci team1, Hazzard 2 & Photonic officer (my previous standard build) and the other had Sci team1, Hazzard 2 & Photonic shockwave 1. I also had another pairing I could switch that included Scramble sensors vs something i can no longer recall...

Strangely enough though, when I swapped my officers last night, the skills I had previously set up went straight back in to the right slots without me having to do anything, unsure why, there may be some trick to it, but I have yet to realise what it actually is

I managed to get in a few matches against carriers with my BOffs set up beforehand. I'm kind of convinced that in PUGs I'd be better off just going with a normal BO set up and never getting within firing range of a carrier for any reason.

With a cruiser at least, I can effectively limit the swarm from about two carriers, but in doing so I need to use a build where I can't either heal or DPS effectively. I could see that being useful in a premade team, but In a PUG it's kind of pointless.

I don't mind switching BOs to switch roles, like from DPS to healing, or from solo to team play. Trying to switch up to fight certain opponents is just too much of a hassle for not enough gain.

Unless of course there's a trick I'm missing.

I agree it would be a nice thing to be able to change out BOs effectively after a respawn or something.

It would make sense if the abilities just went into open slots in your tray when you switched even if they werent the ideal ones.

In my sci ship I change BOs like underwear and its a rediculous hassle to have to drag everything back into the tray.... rearranging would be much less annoying.

Yeah switching out BO's on the fly is too much work if you use the larger Quickbars instead of the small BO-Power-overview. I tried sometime ago to put 2 different BO setups on different quickbars ,not sure it really works though. Its like you use Quickbars 1-3 for your normal DPS setup and then switch out your BO's to your anti-carrier setup where you have all the skills put into quickbar 4-6 before. As far as i remember the game saved the BO-powers into those slots as long as you use the same BO's in the same slots as back when you first aligned those powers to that slot.

Now my thoughts about the Carrierpets ,there are still several ways to deal with Carrierpets:

1. Send an Escort after them
2. have 1 or 2 Sci Ships chain Sensor Scramble on the pets
3. have 2 Sci Ships clear the Fighters with 2 Photonic Shockwaves at the same time (doesnt work that good on the BoP pets though you can clear alot To Dui's with that)

I haven't seen a lot of people taking advantage of the powers like Torpedo spread or Fire at Will.

Those are great for taking out large groups of fighters. Also FBP can drop lots of fighters.

I havent found carriers to be to much of an issue.

I've been doing decently just using Eject Warp Plasma 1 and 3, and I can make that work as a DPS build as well. I've got almost no healing that way, but it works. Nothing makes it out of the EWP cloud alive, and there's only a 15 second gap between the 2 copies.

It still bugs the hell out of me because if I want to deal with the carrier pets, I've got to do *nothing* but deal with them. And if the carriers spread out I can't help but let one of them spawn an army. And it's a lot easier for the Klingons to just focus fire on me than it is to try and keep the pets under control. And the tactics for fighting carriers are too complex to try and coordinate with a word or two in chat.

Target a fighter and fire a tricobalt torp. The explosion will wipe out all nearby fighters as well.
