The demo should give more inside looks to the game.

It's not necessary to make it a whole playable game. I suggest the following:

- Tutorial
- Azura
- the first patrol
- one run at delta volanis
- one run at Sirius DSEs
- Starbase 24
- Diplomatic Mission on Vulcan

So the demo covers almost every part of the game that is of interest. You see the different types of missions and get a fare share of playtime to gain interest and get first inside looks into the game mechanics.

The next best thing is to buy the game and buy a GTC for 60 days (=90 days playtime) or subscribe for at least one month (=60 days playtime).
THAT is an excellent idea and if i remember correctly, those wouldn't even get us up to Lt. Commander rank, so it isn't really too far into the game anyway, just a glimpse

I think they really ought to make an "extended demo" that would effectively be FTP by another name.

Something like this post from Cosmic_One: http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...85#post3121085

Entirely agreed. As an entity removed from interaction with the rest of the STO game universe and its progression requirements, but one that still would have to represent aspects of that universe effectively via instruction and simulation to prepare "cadets" to enter Starfleet, the Academy could be an excellent way to draw players in and generate positive reviews for the game.

One "run" at stuff is ridiculous. Someone will do it, and then be told "Nope can't do it again" and get annoyed. You guys think MY idea is bad but the truth is a LOT of players hate Tier 1 and get bored of it and even though I enjoy tier 1 I also here "The game really begins after you get your first escort/cruiser/science vessel" and if this is the case then what is wrong with letting the demo level you up to 10 and stop you right before you get a new ship?

If you want you can play the demo infinitely, stay at level 10, RP with people, whatever but you aren't going to really be doing anything. But I find it hard to believe a ton of people would sit there at level 10 with tier 1 stuff if they really enjoy the game.

I got to thinking... Starfleet Academy is a good idea, but is the Kobayashi Maru something we want new players to do? Sure, it'd be fun to see the updated, 25th century version, and it would make people who know Star Trek happy, but what about someone completely new? Is it really a good idea to present them with an un-winnable mission? It's all well and good as a test of character, but it doesn't make for a very fun game if you don't know Star Trek lore.

Maybe the person in question is a teenager, and goes to school instead of a job. Maybe the economy hit them hard and they don't have a job. Maybe, even with a $10/hr job, they have bills that add up, leaving little in the way of disposable income.

Champions Online also has been working on this tech too as it will definitely help them when they go F2P.
I... what? What rock was I under? All I ever remember seeing was Cryptic saying that they were not looking into F2P. This... makes me wonder about the future of Star Trek Online.
