Yeah, you could have anyone with the Dax symbiote but the fun is running into the characters you know. Just like you could have a Capt Data who decided to look like an Andorian, but it wouldn't feel like Data.

I hadn't either, until one of the missions on or around DS9 stated it. I even looked in the Timeline but couldn't find it.

Kira doesn't count in this....because as a resistance fighter she was only considered a terrorist by the Cardassians. To the Bajorans she wasn't a terrorist, she was a freedom fighter. Her becoming Kai is a bit of a stretch to me, though. I could see her being first minister in STO, but kai?

I haven't read any of the books mentioned in this thread because, well, the last Trek book I tried to read was pretty cheesey. I can't even remember which one it was, it was years ago. Maybe they've gotten better, maybe not.

But Ezri as captain makes little sense to me. She was a counselor on a starship and then DS9. Considering her skills and profession I'd expect her to be captain of a medical facility or something, but not a starship.

Freedom Fighter is just a euphemism for terrorism that a state supports. It's how they manage to have wild statistics regarding support for terrorists based on whether they used "freedom fighter" or "terrorist". Civilian targets have nothing to do with the definition of "Freedom Fighter' and the Maquis certainly killed civilians (as Federation vessels have civilians on them most of the time). "Collateral damage" is a euphemism the Maquis would likely use for any civilian casualties during their attacks.

Far better....? Far Better.....!? Heck no, Ezri ruled, and was without a doubt Dax's hottest host! Would so pick Ezri up for a date before Jadzia, she just never did it for me, but Ezri... and Mirror Ezri... Why can't I meet a girl in RL that looks like that?

Kira has a hell of a claim to a direct connection with the Prophets. They chose her to be their vessel during the first confrontation with the Pah-Wraiths but which was aborted by the actual Kai (DS9: The Reckoning).

And let's face it, if Kira puts her mind to doing something, she tends to do it. If she joined a monastic order, hard to see her NOT rising to the top.

Put that way I'd have to agree. I retract my assertion that Kira shouldn't be kai, sir.

But I'll never wrap my head around Rom being Nagus.

It would be Starfleet Intelligence, not Section 31, that Starfleet would use to aid the Maquis if they had any clue such aid was going on. Remember outside of Section 31, and those who are working to get rid of them, section 31 does not exist.

The fact that it "doesn't exist" is why SF would use it to funnel aid rather then its far more visible SF Intelligence division.
