doing the section 31 missions, gave me a thought...

what if, somewhere at a point in STO, maybe when u get to "Captain" you "choose" what path you want to go down, and relevant missions to that path follow. and its different mission, by what path u take....

IE:

You get an offer to join section 31, then that places you on the "black ops/intel" path...

Fleet command (what admiral quinn does, or something)

Tatical command, of battlegroups....

Peace/diplomatic/scientific/exploration

Think of it kinda like your "Skills tree"

i like the idea would be a lot of work though
