On this topic I agree to some extent. I know there are a few missions where you are only allowed 2 BOs whereas most are 4 and the occasional none. I'd like the possibility.
On the one hand, Riker was insistent that Captain Picard almost never beam down to planet surfaces, and he certainly never did so alone (I'm sure someone will whip up an episode where Picard is alone but the point is it's an exceptionally rare occurrence.) So there's definitely precedent for not letting the captain travel alone. On the other hand, It's a different time. Starfleet's spread pretty thin so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have every captain in the world with an entourage. You could say the chance of attack is higher so that requires more security, but having an armed starship in orbit ought to be security enough.

so no BOs at all? It should be possible, I suppose, but I hope it's not common. Less than 4? Yes, definitely.
It should definitely be possible. Most of the missions I've got in mind revolve around simple admin tasks inside Federation strongholds until I think of some other type of mission I'd rather pen, so there's really no need for an away team in my missions at the moment.

Same if I make any missions on Risa. I don't want a team of goons running around spoiling the ambience lol

Obviously I'm not suggesting removing away teams altogether. Just an optional number in your map properties, which can be set anywhere between 0 and and a full team.

Hard to imagine a Vice Admiral doing ANY mission solo. Nevertheless, I agree this would be a nice option.

Well, it's all down to how much combat you're going into. Like I said, my missions aren't really going to focus on running and gunning or it's spaceside equivalent, at least not to begin with

Actually, for the last two UGC missions I played my away team was nowhere to be found.

So there you go, guys... one day you can't get rid of them and the next they are off in the holodeck while you soloing a Dahar master and his buddies.

Well, fingers crossed they do give me a reason to continue UGC'ing, cos apart from this issue and the doors thing I think it's a really cool tool

Ultimately I'd like to see a way to exclude SPECIFIC BO's from the mission.
If you read this BO Story Arc thread, you'll see what I mean.

But a simple example, a mission to rescue a kidnapped crew member... how often have we seen that as a recurring episode theme...

Hav just put up this video tutorial. It's kind of a work around that may help you on interior maps.

Thanks, I'll watch that after I've made a coffee. Long night authoring last night

lol "load screen of doom"

That's awesome! So it doesn't even register the away team with this method.

It's a bit of a clunky workaround, I mean you have to spawn in the corner of a room every time, which is a bit creepy lol.

Also, you'll still be forced to choose your away team before entering the ground map. I want it so that "choose your away team" window can be turned off on a per-map basis, because common sense dictates that some maps just need your captain to stick his head in for five minutes and pick up the back story before leaving on the actual mission. If they don't want us to do that, why did they put all those freakin' doors everywhere?

There are so many story reasons to not have the away in team in tow all the time.

I do have a slightly more satisfying workaround. I don't know if you've tried it. The 'Kill Target" button lol It takes a while to get them all 'cos they keep trying to revive each other.

What if Vice Admirals aren't part of the author's target audience?

You can't aim your missions at everybody in the game, that's ludicrous.
