I certainly will start going to B'Tran from now on, thank you for the info! It kind of seems like they have already turned up the frequency of the drops. . . What do you think?

Thanks again for a great and helpful reply!

I don't know if they're turned up. Or maybe I"m just lucky. I now have 5 hours in and the numbers seem very consistent with the above, though.

Suit yourself. But crafting is now more useful in STO than it ever has been before, and has the option to make things that formerly were grind only and bind on pickup. Season 3 was a huge step towards making crafting a viable skill, and useful in the economy.

As others have pointed out, the rare traces are no longer bound, including ones collected prior to season 3. When the rare particles were put in game, it was said that they wanted to incorporate them into crafting, so people should have been saving them.

I just wish the distribution of rare particles was higher, or at least more even among all the particles. Between all my characters that I had collecting, all of them had high amounts of the same traces, and low amounts of the same ones. Granted 3 characters is a small sample set, but it is an interesting trend that prices on the Exchange seem to mirror.
I agree with you about letting the fleet mates provide their own components, especially now that the rare particle traces are not bound. . . And I wanted to tell you that my fleet mates do not expect me to come up with all the particles, but I was hoping I could do it as a gift for them. . . So my fault there for thinking I could keep up with that sort of demand. . . Ha ha.

I also totally agree with the distribution of the rare particles. . . But it would seem that "Cosmic_One" and "Vario" have had a lot better hunting than we have. Perhaps you should check out where they are farming the rares as I for sure am.

Hey buddy thanks for your helpful and useful reply!

I crafted a few purples the other day then ran out of a particular type of rare particle trace (I needed 3 each for the next section of crafting) so I went to Delta Volanis and farmed for a couple hours, got a couple rare particle traces, but none of the kind that I need. Did it again yesterday in B'Tran for several hours and got a nice handful of rare particle traces but NONE of the particular kind I needed. I mean, I'm all for the "You're getting something powerful for free so it'll take time" mentality but really? Probably 6 hours or so of scanning anomalies and doing the same missions over and over just to collect anomalies and I never got 1 of the type I was looking for.

Side note: This is an alternative to grinding emblems to get purple mk XI gear, I wonder what the time difference looks like between doing dailys and earning enough emblems vs farming. I only ever did the exploration dailys (which can get a bit dull and monotonous) because I'm not much for pvp and some of the fleet actions are bleh at best (I cite big dig and exhibit A).
Thank you for seeing into the heart of what I was trying to say and apparently doing so badly on. I have had the same experience that you are describing and multiple times. But I have read farther in this thread and found that "Cosmic_One" and "Vario" have had much better luck than we have. So perhaps STO has already answered our problem. . . Too Good to be true? Well maybe, but I am going out to try my luck again anyway.

I love to craft and make people happy, And I am sure that you do as well.
So Good Luck my friend and happy hunting!

I have been doing roughly 1 hour a day of B'tran anomaly hunting this week - I'm gathering enough to craft the new Aegis set. So as of right now these numbers are for about 5 hours of hunting +/- 20 minutes.

6 Antithorion
4 Beta Tachyon.
5 Chronometric
3 Dekyon
4 Duderon
2 Methogenic
4 Metreon
3 Trianium
5 Vertion

321 Tachyon Wave Signature
404 Photonic Technology
102 Unidentified Substance
87 Technical Schematic

I really appreciate you all, and all your thoughts and opinions. . . And I thank you each and every one of you for being such a caring community of STO players. . . I don't feel so frustrated now and I will keep crafting and enjoying the excitement of the hunt for those rares.

Your a great bunch.

Hey and while I am on the subject, well not really exactly on the same subject. . .
I think that if they offer low level Nebula Exploration missions, that the stuff you can turn in the Level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 exploration point items at the Ship Yard should NOT be bound to our high lvl Vice Admirals, but at the very least we should be able to give those green items to our other chars. . . Since they are ALL green now.

What do you folks think? Should VAs or LA, UA chars have to spend low level exploration points for green items that bind to us on pickup, instead of being able to give to our alt chars or even our fleet mates who are just getting into the game?

I would appreciate your thoughts. . . And thanks ahead of time.

I usually spend my Order badges for myself as I level, and whatever I have left over I simply use to buy the most expensive things and then sell them at the vendor for 50%. I get far more use out of the Credits then I do weaker items.

I personally don't have any problem with the Exploration stuff being bound to the character. They did the work so they should be the only ones to benefit from the reward, IMO. I have, at times, bought stuff for my lower alts with Credits and mailed it to them. Most of the drops I don't want end up going into the Fleet Bank for everyone to use. The game gives you way more then you'll ever use, both in loot drops, exploration loot, mission rewards, and even BOs.

Cosmic your the scanning legend or the "One". ha ha just joking. . . Hey I do have a couple of questions though if that is ok with you. . .

1.- What type of char are you hunting with?
2.- Does your char have any skill builds that help in finding and getting the most out of your anomaly scans?
3.-What kind of science consoles are you using?
4.- And finally what kind of ship are u using and what exactly is the new Aegis Set?

Thanks in advance for your response, although I don't want you to feel like you have to.
Thanks friend,

1: Tactical VA in a Fleet Escort.

2: No. I don't believe there is any skill that helps with that. In B'tran Sector space they're very easy to find. If I'm in a mission I simply hit the V key to scan for them. Most space missions will have 3-4 anomalies. Ground missions will have 2 in space getting to the planet and 1-3 on the ground you can find. Playing the mini-game will give you anywhere from 3-5 drops per anomaly: only 1 if you blow the min-game, though. So in most missions you're getting 10-20 drops - and always a chance to get the rares with each attempt.

3: I'm just using the standard SF issue.

4: Fleet Escort because it turns quickly.

The Aegis set is a new MK X craftable set coming out in a week or two. You can see what it does, and see some pics of it in action, in THIS thread.
