That's simply not the way Escorts are meant to be played.
not to mention that the DPS you get with cannons drops off significantly outside of 5K range.

I can't stand playing fed pvp anymore. I'm constantly dishing out heals to escorts that a) don't have their own, b) don't know how to turn and run when they need to, and c) target cruisers instead of BoPs.

*sigh*

I'll be honest though. I don't like the Def-R for a non-engineer. It sacrifices a Cmdr tac slot for a cloak and an ensign tac slot. No me gusta.

Would you be willing to to take a 4k drop in hull for the BC?

Huh?

You mean it trades a Eng Ensign slot for

1: Cloak
2: Tac Ensign
3: 2 point higher turnrate

Other than that, the ships are identical

Defiants are amazing ships.

As an Engineer main, I love the Defiant Refit. I started out with a cautious beam load out but since I don't play on Advanced or Elite, I shifted over to cannons and, man, it's a blast.

HELL YES.

4k Is nothing. That's one less shot from a torpedo.

So I could care less.

Wow....

Escort: The cloak isn't useless... it's generally useless for useless pilots, it can be quite effective in the right hands.

Cruiser: Saucer= extra target, while you might not believe it, it DOES come in handy, granted it's weapsons are useless, it does make a good bullseye while you're doing somehting else.

Adv Cruiser: I can only assume this is meant as a joke... fastest turn rate of any cruiser, LC Tactical (which means HYT3), it's a great tactical cruiser.

Gal-X: It's decent defensively, even if it does turn like a houseboat. You have the SAME cloak you have in the Escort. The Phaser Lance is practically useless, as are the cannons, mainly because you need to be facing an opponent (how often does that happen when it steers like the Titanic trying to avoid an iceberg). So yeah, good tank, good first strike ship, not great at much else.

Science: My only sci char isn't up to that rank yet, so I don't have any experiences. I HAVE used the Advanced Nebula on Tribble, and I found it to be a capable ship, but can't say much else on that or the refit Intrepid.

As for the phaser lance, its awsome, especially when you want to dispatch an enemy cruiser quickly. When I face a Borg Cube and manage to destroy it's shields I fire the lance....and boy.....it takes about 50% of their hull. But it only works AFTER their shields are down.
Hi, as others have mentioned, there is a diminishing return on using more then one RPS console. And, as others mentioned you might be better off with other defensive or offensive consoles.

However, if you want to increase your turn rate here is a consideration.

1 RPS console and using Engine Booster consoles for the rest, OR auxilary, and then take Inertial Dampener BOF skill.

Reason for this is because, turn rate increases as you lower your max velocity. But this also slows down your ship causing you to suffer a reduced defensive modifier. By increasing your Base Speed with Engine Boosters, your max velocity is now increased as well as your turn rate. A higher base speed will mean even at half velocity, your speed will be closer to a max velocity when not using engine boosters.

Aux to Inertial Dampeners, wonderful skill...speed boost, turn rate boost, crew resist boost...allows a cruiser to whip around and bring torpedoes, or in the case of the Gal-x its lancer weapon to bear.

True, but it would put your hull down to BoP levels at 26k hull and make you even squishier, so some would disagree with you about it being a fair trade off. I believe if one wants wants a BC, one must pay the price for it.

There are even times when I'd rather have the 4k hullponts back and have only a regular cloak.

QFT.

Maybe this is one of the things that you have to try for yourself before you believe them. :p

Imo, the advantage of the Battle Cloak is not so much the act of cloaking to escape enemy weapons fire, but the "not having to wait until you get out of combat to cloak again" after you have already destroyed whoever shot at you.
