If you have purchased a Legacy or Starter Pack, please see this thread for instructions on how to claim your items in-game. (Please see the yellow text in the linked thread for instructions on creating a Reman.) (Not seeing your pack in-game? Please see the lime-green text in the linked thread above for information.)
If you have additional questions about the Legacy or Starter pack, please read this FAQ.
Thanks SO MUCH for all your support, and we'll see you in-game!
First and foremost, I just wanted to say... thank you to whomever is responsible for programing and maintaining this game. You've got good thing going, just try to keep it up.
Right now this is officially my favorite game ever. The many years Star Trek fans waited for this game to be created, in the online multilayer format, was worth waiting for. I'm sure with all the loyal fans, we'll be able to accomplish everything we've hoped and dreamed for so long.
It's really disappointing about the negative threads about this game, where people are basically trolling or flaming for responses. They gotta bash the game, just to be heard, and for what reason? Your guess is as good as mine. It hurts every time I read one of those posts.
There's already a thread for LIke/Dislike. I think a system that would suit us much better, would have a star rating system. Let's keep it simple, but effective. Strictly a five star rating system. If readers really want to give someone a negative rating, they can either not rate it all, or report the post.
Honestly and logically, for the greater good, those people who just want to bash every little thing about the game, just for the heck of it, need to get noticed. Not by choice and not by the amount of views for their hate posts. But for the projectile vomit throwers that they really are. Let the community decide for itself, by engaging a post rating system.
Let me emphasize that I'm not asking for censorship. By all means, let's embrace freedom of speech. But if someone wants to spew crap and take a crap on the game, just because they feel like it. I'm gonna give their post a bad rating and so should you.
If someone wants to talk like this about our beloved game, in our own forums, they're on our turf. They have to answer to their own fellow players. If they're gonna bash the DEVS, Companys who run it, or even other players, they better have a good and logical reason. Otherwise, they're not welcome in our community forums.
So I believe I speak for everyone, when I say, people who want to crap on the game without a reason or suggesting a solution, have to answer for their crimes.
We don't care what their opinions are of the game, but we want to know if the rest of the community agrees with them also. If the community doesn't agree with a person bashing their game, then we have good reason to demand a post rating system. So the logical conclusion here should be obvious, shouldn't it?

Might I be so bold as to ask what in God's Green Earth gives you , me, or anyone else BESIDES the devs the right to moderate the feedback of a paying customer?
I don't particularly like troll responses. But you are suggesting an EXTREMELY slippery slope by which "your good and logical reason" does not resonate with the majority of players and is rated no stars.
The logical fallacy you are making is that trolls will not abuse such a system any more than they are willing to abuse posting.
The solution to said frustration is , of course, increased forum moderation.

I'm not suggesting moderation, but a community based system of approval. The numbers will speak for themselves. It works on American Idol, people vote on their cells to decide the winning contestants. LOL
If the community really doesn't like someone's post, it should be decided some how.
Yes, we are paying customers. But that's bs if you're saying it's ok for people to just pay so they can bash STO on the forums. That's wrong.
I will not accept, just because one persons experience is bad, they're not going to ruin it for everyone else.

"we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" mmo banned game rpg
And see what you come up with?\
That's right, they can ban your arse for any reason, what so ever. And you can't say jack, cause after that you no longer have access to the forums.
All I'm trying to do, is make it so that it doesn't get to that point. We can ask the people we don't want, to leave quietly before it escalates. If everyone voted their posts as crap, then obviously they need to stop posing to the forums, or get "squelched" by the mod/admins.
It doesn't always need a ban, maybe a big slap on the wrist. Like getting silenced for a while.
On another vBulletin using board I know, EN World, they use a Rep/Post Rating system that can only be used to give positive reputation. I think that is a good system for EN World and it would also work for these forums. It also has requirements where you cannot give more then 3 or so Rep points per day and need to spread it around before giving it to the same poster again.

So the purpose of this system is not only to help reward posters for being courteous and having good ideas, but also to discourage negative threads?
That's a great goal. Problem is that it cannot and will not work.
I've seen these kinds of systems on forums before. The more angry, ranty, flamey and trollery a thread the more it gets positively rated. That's not a theory, that's fact. That's what happens on every forum that has the kind of system that you're talking about.
It already happens here on the STO forums.
Think about it. Which threads on the STO forums get the most views, the most responses and spend the most time on the front page? The flame-filled troll rants, that's which ones. So the community is already rating the posts/threads they like and dislike. They're doing it with their views and responses.
The kind of system that you're talking about won't and really can't benefit the forum community in any way. It'll simply be gamed and abused by the 'hard core', just like everything else is.

I really like your post. It was well thought out and seems very logical.
But I need to point out a few things that have been forgotten.
Pioneers
1. the people who made this game
2. the guy who made facebook
3. the first constitution of the united states was rejected
4. Christopher Columbus wasn't the first discover America, but he was the first to make it known to everyone he could.
5. the guys who thought the world was flat, made that work for them for a while, till they found out about trade routes.
What I'm trying to point out with this outlined list? The system you're talking about may have failed in the past, but eventually there will be one that will succeed.
Do you really think Thomas Edison succeeded right off the bat with the light bulb? No he only had one success, but if you asked him back then, how many failed attempts would he have said?
Quote:
"Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."
A reporter came asked Edison, "How many times are you going to fail at creating the light bulb?" Mr. Edison replied, "Son, I haven't failed! I've simply discovered another way not to invent the light bulb!"
If you're gonna make an omelet, you gotta break a few eggs.
“I was relentless even in the face of total lack of encouragement because much more often than you think; sheer persistence is the difference between success and failure." Donald Trump
Maybe the reason why we haven't found a system that works, is because we haven't made the right suggestion yet. Perhaps a player driven post rating system, needs to have a few small scripts to assist the mods with weeding out stuff.
