the only problem with re-enacting it is the feds lose. seems a bit pointless.

you could change it sop that you win but whats the point. seems odd that anyone would do that even for a training exercise. why not just create a new borg fleet action an make it more interesting.

seams odd that someone would do a no win training exercise. kobayashi maru anyone. The Borg are worse than the Klingons who else would be better suited for the no win scenario?
as for a wolf 359 fleet action it wouldnt be right unless it is just a simulation. we cant go back in time and kill picard can we

The No Win scenario is more of a psychological test than anything.
To show the student that there are times when not everyone can be saved despite their best efforts.
Most likely to keep Starfleet captains objective and help them regonize when they should not put their ship and crew in jeopardy.

the maru is meant to be a real life test (in the fictional sense) of a captains abilities and how he copes under pressure. no win scenarios are all well and good but a fleet action is something the player do for fun and to earn xp. whats the point of doing it. turn up with one ship, get killed, complete the fleet action and profit? rinse and repeat until you a VA?

That particular situation is not right for a FA in my view.

Great idea! For another player-deserted and hated zone (like Crystalline Entity) that is.

First: I didn't quite understand your reenactment rules. You want first to delay the cube and then destroy borg from future? Huh? Okay well... whatever, story sucks with every Fleet Action, let's get to the gaming part.

Yes I can see you took inspiration from WoW raids. That won't work and there are several reasons for that. First is reaction time. In order to perform coordinated maneuvers en masse, you have to be quick. Apart from escorts, most ships are sluggish as hell. A cruiser turns around for ages, so any fast maneuvers are out of the question. You also need to coordinate - how? STO is purely casual - try PuGging KA, that can be a complete nightmare - the first part. And it's technically easier than what you propose and it's just 5 people!

Basically, in a casual MMO, you can't expect more than 5 people to do anything more complicated than "fly there and destroy everything you find there". Anything more complex leads to frustration.

"Take care of the adds" - most people have problems shooting KA probes first
"Fly there at the exact moment" - with a cruiser
"Coordinate pressing buttons" - that's doable (as seen in Infected) but considering how many people are out there that can't even get to the last boss room...

No.

Many of the Fleet Actions are great, the problem is the level banding that scatters players accross dozens of dead instances rather than unifying all the players.
Because before the level banding was added all the Fleet Actions were buzzing with activity.

I admit that I miss Starbase 24 when it wasn't level-banded. Reward complaints aside, it was a great experience to work alongside so many different people in so many different ship classes.

I do absolute love the idea of fleet actions, though. It's a great way to work with other people without necessarily needing to form groups (though you definitely can), and the way other people often support each other without saying a word is fun. I saved a lot of people with last-second intervention, and got saved a lot of times in turn.

One of my first "this is FUN" experiences in STO was SB 24 in my Miranda. I had a mission (I think, been awhile) to check it out, and once I got inside I couldn't bring myself to leave. The rewards were just icing on an already super-fun cake.

Hopefully fleet actions will get a good re-inspection by the dev team some day and we can find a way to get rid of level banding in a few fun fleet actions without taking rewards away from lower-ranked captains.

I guess you're right. When I wrote that, I was thinking it would be weird to see people reenacting 9/11 in comparison. But then again, they made a movie based off those events a few years later.

A new assault by the Borg I could go with this. It just sounded like it would make a good fleet action IMO.
