# 1 Resistances
04-22-2011, 08:01 AM
What are the most common resistances that people are running? I've tried PVPing with phasers and antiprotons and I can't seem to bring anyone down. My BO III has barely scratched an opponent's shields, even when facing a Defiant-R! I am wondering if this is due to resistance. I have maxed out my skill points in energy/beams and then phasers (or anti protons when I respecced).

I've been asking my guildmates for some PVP advice, but no one can really tell me why I can't bring down the shields of any ship, even escorts.

Weapon power? Wrong timing (empts or/and TSS on target)? Long range? Wrong consoles? Not skilled into those weapons? You arent tactical? Do you shoot with beam arrays without faw? No EPS console(s)? No accuracy/lot MISS?

Tactical. Fully specc'd into beams. 4 Phaser relays (or proton mags, whichever weapon I am using) DBB up front. No buffs on the opponent. Weapon power at 125. Sometimes with AP:A or AP:O up. I have an EPS console. Accuracy 15%.

Even if the opponent has EpTS up or another dmg reduction buff it seems waaay more effective than mine. And I have spec'd into beefing up my shields.

If you are firing cannons first you need to wait for you power to come back before using BOL. Try hitting a weapon bat right before and see if that helps. If it does then its power issues.

Make sure your full spec in beams energy weapons and weapon type.

Range does matter on beams as well, not as terrible a drop of as with cannons. But try being 4-6k out when you BOL.

IMO If you using 3 or 4 DBB front, use faw3 and 2. Beams lacking the überpowers like Rapid fire. Just have FAW what is like scatter volley(AoE), and if u fly escort or excelsior, you can still use BO3. Without such skill like rapid fire, youll not do much damage with DBB.
About BO i dont know how it works. some ppl are missing 80% of BO3, some just hit with almost every BO3 shots with 30k+ dmg.

If you fly excelsior, you can boost damage with EmptW+DEM3, together with FAW, so you will hit the hull with a decent dmg. Works without FAW too if u dont want to use the lameskill. But that lame skill is the only skill what has longer duration than BO.

Or use BTSx skill but that is really silly, and unefficient against cruisers or anyone who has engineering team, or proper batteries And those skills doesnt boosting dmg at all.

Really? Damn. Recently, if I approach a battle and notice someone weakened, I hit by buffs, decloak at just under 10km, and hit them with a BO3 to try to finish them off quicker. I guess I should just wait those extra few seconds to get closer.

Despite having received a little nerf a while back, Shield Resistances/Heals are still the most powerful way of protecting one's self, and if people are clever with their power settings/skill use/batteries it's quite easy to keep shields up under any amount of damage. Emergency Power to Shields + Transfer Shield Strength will happily laugh off the alpha strike from any Escort - throw cross-heals from team-mates into that equation and the difficulty of scratching a target increases exponentially. A properly tanking/healing-specced Cruiser or Science Ship will also have enough shield resists/heals in a continuous cooldown cycle that they will be literally unkillable for a standard Tac/Escort in a 1v1 situation.

The only solutions are to a) Be very intelligent in paying attention to your target's buff bar, spotting a gap in cooldowns between their major shield resists/heals, and wait until that moment to unleash your full alpha strike against them, b) Have Science Officers with you who can use Subnucleonic Beam to strip the targert of their shield buffs and allow you to do your job and make the kill, or c) Roll Science Officer yourself and put it into an Escort so you can do the buff-stripping and follow-up alpha strike of your own accord.

If that was always your tactic, you are fine if we look at your signature. It really shows how overpowered is the BO3, close or long range, its silly...

And if you get shoot at, try to get the highest shield power what you can get. More shieldpower=more resistance. Those skills was nerfed, but i think its compensated with the power=resistance changes
And even low aux power TSS can give you nice shield resistance and HoT, but ofc higher is better.

It depends upon the situation, especially since starting off with BO isn't good if you're going to hang around to fight, because of power levels (but I do love adding the de-cloak bonus to BO). Actually, for the one from my sig, I was rushing into the battle because the match was about to end, so my inertia carried me to about 3 km away from my target. Not even sure if my weapon power was at max, and I think I only had a few buffs up because the rest were on cool down. Furthermore, I remember hitting a 37K crit last night in a private challenge, and I was probably something like 0.2 km away from my target. So, closer, like with cannons, is probably better. I remember a lot of crits around 18K, so if they were from 10km out that would be consistent, but my memory could be foggy - so many details to remember from so many battles. Only the ones at 30K and above really stand out at this point.
