Hi all,

I had a dream.........................a STO where Klingon players could attack/Raid/occupy worlds i.e in Fed/Rom space, where Fed players got an update when logging in about "Vulcan or Koolhaas system distress call received..under siege from Klingons or even Roms when they become a playable faction.
Thus Feds defend worlds, fleets work together to provide full coverage of patrols of fed space and look to expand Fed space through diplomacy and Klingons or Roms by siege and force.....pvp in these systems where there are repercussions on losing or winning........Fleets battling fleets to push territorial boundaries of their factions space.........random Borg appearances attempting to assimilate worlds in Fed/Rom/KDF, thus forcing fractions to declare a seize fire to work together to deal with the common threat.
Science officers being sent out to create/repair a a small outpost in space which can possibly create a spawn point in space, coz if you get taken out, you respawn at the nearest base. KDF and ROM players looking at doing the same................
Tactical officers being tasked by fleet Admirals to patrol say Kassae Sector to ensure no KDF are looking at going for a planet in fed space and if there are.....its pvp time and if you get ambushed.....your battered ship which your stuck in, needs a science ship to repair it and possibly tow it to outpost/starbase for major repairs.........
What do you think??
I think this will allow players to simply fight each other in open space or in systems thus creating player generated missions which will be dynamic, random and minimize amount of content needed to be created by Cryptic?

Well, a Territory-Control game within STO has been mentioned before of course.

But I rather like the implication in your post that different vessels might have different roles in a territory war besides simple combat. Possibly as a tie-in mechanic via the Duty Officer Assignments.

Science vessels (and KDF scout ships, ie Bird-of-Prey) would map out a sector and seek out suitable worlds for resources and colonization.

Cruisers (with their Engineering focus) are employed to establish outposts, space stations, and colonies. They would also deploy defensive satellites and sensor arrays. They would also serve as defenders for outposts, stations, and colonies.

Escorts would be used in various roles to scout enemy territory, establish (or disrupt) trade routes, counter piracy, etc.

And I don't see this happening any time in the near future. Post-Season 5 at the very least.

Except it messes with PVE becuase it messes around with planets we still need to access to do missions so I don't see it hapening if territory control happens it will likey be in a separate sector block that doesn't affect PVE. Now if PVP got it's own server they wouldn't have to worry about that stuff.

I have a sneaking suspicion that one of the endgame gameplay mechanics that will eventually go into STO is going to revolve around fleets and some form of fleet-based wargame. Whether that's a control-x game, or a Fleet-Vs-Fleet ranking, or something else I can't say.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense in this game to have a persistent territory control system that would be based on individuals and PUG's. Just my opinion.
