i was a little disappointed to find out that the fighter was a playable ship rather than like the deployable ones that you got from the vault. is there any chance of being given like a craftable peregrine fighter pack to deploy like the reman scorpion fighters??

THIS!, yes please slightly more powerfull!

would solve the fed carrier debate aswell...

You have a starship. How bout you use that to kill things. You know, like in... Star Trek. Or did I miss all the episodes where the Enterprise(s), Defiant, and Voyager launched shuttles and fighters to fight their battles for them.

The biggest problem with fighters is that they act like ships. A one-on-one engagement (even if there is a swarm) will always favor the ship with stronger shields and alot more weapons. The only way a fighter will work is to have a squadron set-up with four fighers in close formation (this will give them 4x shields and weapons. The end result should be a force equivalent to a BoP or even an Escort. The basic ideal is to make the fighter tactically viable; right now, a figher is nothing but fodder for the ship's guns.

Maybe Cryptic will make a special figher only Arena to give the fighters something to do.

You do know that their were in fact fighters in various Trek shows right?

Yes, in desperate situations (Battle to retake DS9) and when they had nothing else (Runabouts). Voyager also popped Tom Paris in a shuttle a few times in emergencies but of course he had plot immunity and his little shuttle wasn't in danger.

Fighers are needed to protect a vulnerable mothership or attack a target while the mothership/base remains out of harms way. However, starships can protect themselves and offer much greater firepower and utility than a fighter, thus fighters are irrelevant in Star Trek and are essentially flying coffins.

While I agree that generally in Trek our ships wouldn't generally launch a fleet of fighters...in the game we can launch scorpion fighers so peregrines would at least make more sense.

Right and this isnt a desperate situation, war against the Klingons the Romulans the Dominion the mirror universe the Borg the hirogen and last but not least the iconians. humm seems like a desperate time to me i would use everything i could to stay alive never mind win.
also my ship is pretty large and i quite like being able to deploy fighters to harry the enemy and take a bit of fire off of me so that i can come around and bring down my full weapons might on the enemy.

exactly what i was saying it feels odd being able to use scorpion fighters i just want to be able to launch fed fighters

1. I dislike the existence of KDF Carriers and the Scorpion Fighter device in a Startrek game.
2. I would, giving that we have them already, prefer that there was also a Peregrine Fighter device that shares a global cooldown with the Scorpion Fighters, and likewise a To'Duji Device with the same limitations. This way, at least the fighters launched are more likely to fit canon. Even if they are still flying coffins.

I thing the way fighters are in the game right now is all right.
I mean the Scorpion fighter device spawns 3 fighters. Thats doesnt make it Star Wars. The Klingon carrier is a "special ship". If there would be 50% carriers I'd start to worry, but with one ship (ok 2)... that doesnt make it Star wars eighter.

Also, the device-fighters are not very strong (I wouldnt want it any other way). They are a nice gimik but not gameplay changing in any way. So yes, the way they are in the game now is, in my opinon, all right. More would be a bad thing.

But in the way they ARE here I'd like to see more of them. I mentionet before that I'd love to see the new fighters as devices. But also other things, like shutles. All with shared CDs, so no super-spam for "usual ships" (means: ships that are no carriers), but why not deploying one -slightly stronger- Runabout or Delta-flyer instead of 3 fighters (may be with a special ability like.... dont know.. fire at will as plasma-torpedo-killer)? Or 2 Shutles instead of 3 fighters? A little variation here. That wouldnt add more fighter-spam, this IS already there with the scorpions. It would just change it to be more canon then all fed ships and KDF ships deploying Reman fighters and it would have more variation.
