I can understand this in CnH, but A fight broke out in Ker'rat yesterday and it went on for a long time. Both sides forgot about the Ker'rat objective and it turned out to be a space battle at the spawn point and I had an awesome time.
To me, PvP like that makes more sense. Both sides headed toward one objective and a battle breaks out. Good times. I wouldn't mind spending 45+ minutes like that.
45 minutes for a handful of points I could get in 20 minutes doing explore missions, no thanks. It would be fine if it was every once in awhile but we all know that end game PVP takes forever for almost no reward, bragging rights? Who cares?
Two healers can keep each other alive almost indefinitely, with other heals being thrown around you kill the same person 10-20 times before they die. What is the point?
Bring a tac escort. Things die real quick when you know how to fly one.
From now on after 30 minutes I am going to go AFK or leave. Anything more than that is just ridiculous.
So you don't like the good, nearly evenly matched PvP matches? I guess you must only like it when you have a huge advantage over the enemy.
PvPing for points? Nobody who actually likes PvP cares about the rewards you get at the end of a match.
As far as hand pain, you seriously need to change the way you are playing if it is giving you hand pain after 45 minutes. I've been in 2 hour matches (55 kill private challenges), with zero hand pain or discomfort, and anyone who has heard me on vent while fighting can tell you that it sounds like I'm playing a drum set on my keyboard, so it's not like you can't hit a lot of buttons quickly, and even spam keys, without harming your hands.
I do CAD for a living and wear wrist braces all the time when using a computer as well as have an ergonomic work environment at home. 45 minutes of hectic mouse and keyboard action hurts. I may not be a normal 20 something player but still the non-stop nature of action is not healthy for anyone as you are supposed to use a keyboard for less than an hour at a time and a keyboard and a mouse for less than 30 minutes before you take a break or you can build up muscle tension in your hands which can lead to nerve damage, e.g.. carpal tunnel. I have avoided it barely but have seen it destroy some of my friend's wrists and hands even after they got surgery.
The only time I would support a timer on PvP matches is if it kicks in after x minutes of inaction i.e. neither side does any damage for x minutes then a warning that the match will end in x more minutes if fighting does not resume. That would help stop one side hiding out and just trying to bore the other side to death.
Nothing wrong with a PvP match lasting 45 minutes or more (potential health issues aside), I've been in some epic matches where both sides were evenly matches and the match seems to last forever - its almost sad when it ends.
The contest is the reward in PvP, not the emblems or XP, half the time I don't even know which PVP daily is running on any given day, I just take whatever pops first.
Having said all that, I'll admit to there being times when I really wished a match would just end due to real life issues intruding (I hate to go AFK / quit mid match).
I've got to admit, I think PVP does have a better flow to it at lower levels. Maybe private matches in lower tier ships could be more to your liking? I know I'd love an excuse to dust off the K'tinga for some PVP.
