You know honestly seeing as the renown is a lotro thing... honestly people LIVE in that games PvmP. Building renown by offing higher renown players is how you move up the ladder. Reaching the higher levels takes lots of kills.... Really why limit PvP to 3 emblems a day. Give everyone one for every three rounds, and don't cap it to once a day... and then make a renown style leader board so people can earn more emblems and more renown. The higher they get the more they get targeted, the lower the are the less they likely get targeted. Lotro adds a secondary title icon to their game avatars... you can quickly look at a player an notice there an esquire rank for instance and not worth much in the way of renown...

When some one sees Matteos little ship is a 8 star Captain of war... he gets focused. lol

Any current "encouragement" comes from within. I play and want to win. Why? Because I want to win and be recognized as someone to be reckoned with, but that only comes from me ... no one else. If someone doesn't give a rat's aft they won't care about having their backsides handed to them on a silver, gold or even wood platter ... They just don't care.

As with now, this only continues to reward those who don't care. You still get the greatest ROI (or lack there of). Currently, if I go into a match and sit at the gate until the match is over I'd get 3 emblems for not doing a damn thing. Double the rewards for winning and do nothing for loosing begets the same. The only difference here is for those who do want to (and do) win. For those who want to and don't they still suffer by the hand of those who don't care. But that sword cuts both ways unfortunately and not being rewarded WILL drive new and less able players away.

So, the real question is: How do you reward those who try (win or loose) and not those who don't (akf-ers, farmers, jackasses)?

Where players with higher renown levels are worth more renown for scoring kills on.
Perhaps Skill points and emblem rewards could be scaled to your opponents skill and kill counts (or even dmg counts) could play into the reward system.

Perhaps everyone should get 1 emblem for a round of 3 instead of the 3 given now;
However you get a bonus of .2 emblems for every kill you get credit on... with a muliplier based on the renown rating.. such that a kill on a very highly rated player could give you up to say a 5x bonus on that math.
...
Start with one (1) emblem for both sides. The more you participate by getting or being part of a kill the more your reward is multiplied; up to a maximum (say 5 emblems). This would prevent the undesirables from joining a match because they would be putting in 20-30m (one would hope for longer) to get a single emblem; a horrible ROI. (You could even introduce a system whereby if you take more damage than you give (or some other mechanism) you get nothing; so, the undesirables get nothing regardless of being on the winning or loosing team; no ROI.)

This would probably go to the "encouragement" too; as I would like to see my renown as high as possible. Anyone playing and trying would get recognition of their effort community-wide and as they rise to the top they feel better and better about playing more and more.

Players are able to participate in both queues; either as a team or as an individual. If you are part of a premade and don't want to pug .. you have your queue. If you want to pug without crossing a premade ... you have your queue. If you want to do both ... knock yourself out.

The PUG queue should have a mechanism in place for balancing the "team renown". This would provide roughly equitable skill to both teams. Thus you don't get the "accidental" premade or a severely imbalance match.

Will the premade queue be excruciatingly slow? Probably, but, over time, we may find that those individuals who play in the PUG queue become more and more confident. They learn tips and strategys. They play alongside "renowed" players. They join PvP fleets and more fleets field more teams. Or, they form teams of their own and start queueing in the Premade queue.

Isn't THAT what we're really seeking? More people playing more PvP?

The only problem left is how to determine renown? If it is based on damage output and kills, well ERA is gonna look like a noob. (ERA, noob, when would you think that. ) Define it by healing and Beagles wouldn't make it out of the bottom rung.

I think the best measurement we get for "renown" is your win ratio, e .g. the number of matches you participated in and won.

I would probably count "started matches" vs "won matches", to avoid Logoff-skiing.

I would say they could break it down by matches and possibly... K/D... Dmg numbers... and Healing numbers. They could have a few ways to add a Renown Muliplier to your end game renown calculation or something...
So at the end of the match you would see something like this... (the multipliers being to the renown you earn)
7 kills + .02x each
2 deaths - .02x each
2 kills on players with 2x renown ratings +.02x
2 kills on players with 4x renown ratings +.06x
30% of team healing +.02x
10% of team dmg +.02x
Game Won + .02X + 1 extra emblem

I wouldn't want to penalize a team healer who only does 200k in dmg but 2 mil in healing... thats not doing nothing for the team. And a bunch of ways to earn a small bonus to your reward gives people incentives to play diffrent styles, and honestly gives everyone a way to earn reward.

I was also thinking of ways for people to earn renown even if they are in that match with a pug vs a premade or semi premade... This is where getting a renown bonus for say killing or doing X amount of dmg to a person with a higher renown then you. Not to keep going back to it but in LOTRO... ya there are players running around there PvmP area that are expert players, more then likely they will get you before you get them, however as a newer player if you manage to score a kill on that player... or you score a bunch of dmg and someone else finnishes them you get a very nice renown reward. I think something like that could help with warp outs when your against some of the big name teams. Sure you may still loose 15 0... however if you push them to 15 5 or something those 5 kills could make for a very very nice renown bonus and perhaps you end up with more emblems then if you had won.

Well its pretty hard with that concept, as for example killing era is like 10000x more worthy than kiling me for example

It would have to compare the renown of the killer with his victim and modify with some coeficient, so if you beat someone really good and you are really bad, you get more, than the other way around.

I think anything other than win ratios is going to benefit only cruiser and escort pilots. Science Vessels can usually not achieve the kills, damage, or healing other ships can. That you scrambled the enemy team the entire time does only earn you hatepoints and a win, but not damage, healing or whatever.

My signature contains my link to the a possible fleet ranking system. That ranking system doesn't try to define the "best" player. It just gives you the "best player in a narrow category that has whatever meaning you attach to it".

See here: http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho....php?p=3438364

But for a Queue matching system, I would still narrow it down to win vs matches ratio.
