If there is money in it then surely they will add some pvp content. The ques are getting slower and slower, granted I still get into matches, but when pvp dies my subscription will get cancelled. The exodus from this game by pvpers lately has to be felt by cryptic (feels like quite a few players have left), maybe they will give pvp some attention. Pvpers most likely buy the most respec tokens, dont cry about the lack of content, and most likely purchase numerous ships in an effort to find that special one that works so well. The one good thing about the dwindling pvp population is that I seem to not esplode as often as I used to. 1 pvp zone would keep us happy for many stardates.... make it so Cryptic.
What got me was Jack's vision for STO, where players populated the maps with crafted starbases, ships, shipyards, etc; and it's only a natural progression to let players attack and defend said properties.
Just like it's a natural progression to go from captaining escort ships, to cruisers, to carriers, to being an actual 'admiral' and controlling fleets of player and guild crafted ships controlled by Duty officers and the like.
I saw a lot of KDF leave because that gameplay wasn't delivered. But now that Mr. Emmertt is the big cheese ( http://crypticstudios.com/node/64 ) I'm really interested in seeing if STO returns in part to that vision, and if it did i think a lot of KDF would come back.
There's been a lot that has been added to make gameplay better for both factions since launch, and the most critical elements of PvP (Q's, and Ground Combat) are about to be crossed off the 'to-fix' list.
Like Jack said, the future of the game lies in the hands of the players; stay vocal, stay positive, and keep generating the great ideas. 'Cause if CS is willing to give PvE creation back to the fanbase, (with great results, btw) I think a couple of sector blocks (Eti Eridani and Pi Cannis, for starters)of open pvp/territory control maps isn't wholly unreasonable.....
CS just got bought for significantly more than what Atar-...
At... Those other guys picked them up for.
With Jack as CEO and with the new funding and set of assets, I'm VERY interested to see if STO implements crafting and economy the way it had originally envisioned, and also interested in seeing what that means to the possibility of open PvP.
PvP is what will add endless life to the endgame. That keeps people playing and if you had a truely open area of PvP with starbases and the like that could be taken and then captured via ground combat, you'd have a lot of people return.
Rewards? Not sure about upping the power of players for RvR but they'd go silly nuts for free costumes and gear.
The money in PvP is the player interest it would generate.
