Well sitting idly while dead and reworking your consoles are an option right now. You don't need to inspect an enemy ship to see what kind of weapons he's using so if you want to stack resistances you already can. Science abilities are all flashy or they create a debuff that can be seen on your character so likewise you can adjust your strategy in death if you've been paying attention or are willing to take a minute or two to go through your combat log.

i doubt we'll be getting additional weapon slots to be honest, which is fine because consoles and boff powers are really what make the ship. So while more weapons and means of making them actually matter would be NICE i expect we'll get either more boff slots or increase in number of higher rank boff slots and or additional console slots.

i wouldn't mind the addition of universal slots as previously suggested, although probl reserve these for lieutenan commander/lieutentant seats and leave commander slots as dedicated tack/engi/sci so the ships MAIN role is still fairly set in stone.

I like the idea of everybody at "Admiral" rank simply getting a universal upgrade console that increases hull strength and power levels of any ship. +25% to hull and +5 to all power levels is good enough; we don't need ships with more weapons or shield slots. It goes without saying that this should be a unique and bound item.

Another idea would be the ability, through crafting, to add a universal ensign slot to any ship (player's choice). That would certainly get people to go through all of the crafting levels, since this doesn't seem like something you'd be able to sell/buy on the exchange. It should also be very expensive in terms of crafting materials.

I already cringe at the thought of deciding what garbage ability to put in my oveubundance of ensign slots. why would i want a universal ensign slot? most ships have sufficient standard seating to have more then enough of garbage ensigin abilities. Just my opinion though

Tier 6 shouldn't be new ships, but it should be a retrofit option for all ships teir 2 and above.

Example!
I love escorts, and I love the Akira class hull. I would use the retrofit token and choose to either give it the boff/console layout of the fleet or advanced escorts. Change is permanent so you couldn't switch layouts at will. What changed would be the hull/shield HP, weapons, boff seats, and consoles. So they would still be either of the two ship "flavors" just slightly different due to turn rate and total number of crew.

Classic Constitution, NX, and Oberth will be void from doing this. Miranda is a special case though. We still need a starter ship, but I think it could also be upgraded with a retrofit token and be either a cruiser or a science ship.

This would have a negligible effect on PvP I think, except for the PvP'ers raging that they were crushed by a Nova or a Miranda. Seriously though don't you PvP'ers want a little randomness in your battles?

Now that's a good idea, cause I do like some of the lower tier ships, but I like having the Tier 4-5 weapon slots.

Also, I think if you are able to upgrade ships, you should be able to pick how many universal slots you have, and weapon slot lay outs.

That would completely mess up the balance in-game. Before such a thing as you suggest could be launched, the space combat game would basically need to be rebuilt from the ground up. I'm not saying something similar couldn't be bashed into the current system, but my idea would maintain balance and also would push Cryptic's customization motto farther.

Skintight "regenerative" shielding! I am obsessed with it. It must happen
