Well, bringing the server down on a Friday night (UK player here), seems like an awkward choice...although, as mentioned above, likely due to the emergency nature of the maintenance.
My prime issue with this is the poor quality of information in the initial post: There are 2 timeframes listed during which the shard is down, one is two hours long, the other is three hours long. Surely the OP realises that proof-reading is a viable option for posts, even of this short length.
