Yeah, I'm not even sure how a Federation Battleship would be different from an extra large cruiser. And if it is just an extra large cruiser with extra large shields and extra large hull, then there are going to be some serious balancing issues in comparison to cruisers.
Actually in game the Noble and Sovereign Class Assault Cruiser are many times referred to as battleships. So we already have them.
(in fact photonic fleet can spawn a "Soveriegn Class Battleship")
Also I just thought up something for the carrier debate...
As of right now, in game theoretically every federation ship can act as a carrier. I can launch an armed runabout from anywhere in warp from my ship via my transporter room (and this is any fed ship) .
So why cannot I not launch one while in combat? Does no one else in my crew know how to pilot runabouts? I know I have shuttle pilots available since I use boarding party all the time.
I guess my bridge crew and I are the only people competent enough on my ship to actually fly and shoot at the same time.
The Akira IS NOT a carrier. That horse is mush now.
lol, nah, I'm just joking around.
According to its few on screen appearances it's a torpedo boat. According to its initial specifications it had a shuttle bay that ran through the entire length of its disk to facilitate landing and taking off of fighter craft.
I'm glad the discussion has been settled to your satisfaction, and conveniently exactly the way you wanted it to be, but given that we are discussing pretend ships in a pretend future and the information that we're using is 30 years out of date by the standards of that pretend future, I hope you'll understand if others still think the horse may be less 'mushy' than you believe.
