# 1 Enterprise F question
07-28-2011, 10:53 AM
im just wondering if anyone knows whether or not the enterprise f will be the first playable fed carrier because i noticed from the pictures that it has a huge hangar bay door on the saucer and it would be a shame to see it go to waste.

Nobody knows. I am guessing that we will see it in use by the AI in some missions first, and much later a less powerful version will be available for players.

I hope it's not a carrier. Carriers are big slow turtles, and even though the F is huge, I am hoping it's on par with the Starcruiser and can be used much like it.

It won't be a carrier, there are enough threads on these forums arguing whether feds should have carriers or not. There are Ask Cryptic reports where they answered if feds were going to get carriers and the Devs said that there was no plans on giving the feds carriers, its one of the few things that the KDF has and honestly, I'm fine with them having it and the Feds not. The Feds already have soo many more ships and varients of those ships that carriers would be a waste plus its one less then we have to spend skill points on.

If any ship is going to be a carrier, it should be the Akira. That was the main design of that ship. At the start of battle it would lanuch sevral small fighters, and then support them as a torpedo boat. Am I saying the feds need a carrier, no, only that if we get one it should be inline with canon. The new Enterprise does not need to be a carrier, It needs to be a destroyer.

Edit: I found this interesting.

This is from the Deep Space Nine Technical Manual for the Akira

■Production Base: ASDB Integration Facility, Antares Fleet Yards, Antares IV.
Type: Heavy Cruiser. ■Accommodation: 500 officers and crew; 4,500 personnel evacuation limit.
■Power Plant: One 1,500 plus Cochrane warp core feeding two nacelles; one impulse system.
■Dimensions: Length, 464.43 meters; beam, 316.67 meters; height, 87.43 meters.
■Mass: 3,055,000 metric tonnes.
■Performance: Warp 9.8 for 12 hours.
■Armament: Six type-10 phaser emitters; two photon torpedo launchers.

Just thought that was interesting.

That's one of the draw backs to this IP is that there isn't any real consistency with the terminology for the ships.

I thought I'd QFT this before I move it to the ships.

From reading through dev posts, mainly CapnLogan, it looks as though the Odyssey class will be a newer version of the Galaxy-Refit

just to point out, there are actually very few Escorts in starfleet, so they had to do something besides putting in every ship as a cruiser and like 1-2 science ships.....

I think I read in quite a few threads that the Odyssey is going to be a cruiser class. Makes sense I guess. Besides the NX-Class all the classes that have previously bared the name Enterprise in STO have been cruisers (TOS Corrie, Corrie, Excel Refit, Galaxy, Sov).
As long as it handles well (like the Excelsior… maybe Sov with RCS) I’ll be happy.

With concerns to a Fed Carrier I don’t really have an opinion if Feds should have it or not. If the Feds did get one however it should be the Typhon-Class from Star Trek: Invasion (assuming Copyrights/Usage Rights can be cleared up… hate legal stuff that holds up games sometimes :p ).

With concerns to haveing more variety of ships at VA, personally I’d like to see an Akira Refit (I know this has been argued in other threads, and I don’t wanna get into a new one). But considering it was supposed to be a powerful Torpedo Gunboat and was the test bed for a lot of the tech used in the Sovereign class I think it deserves some love. I know a LOT of people who would like it for their VA.

On a silly personal whim I wouldn’t even mind seeing a Nova class Re-fit despite its size and power lol
