# 1 ENG Captain flying T4 Defiant?

So I'm a bit curious and just looking to mix things up a bit with my new engineering captain that I am leveling now. This is my 3rd Engineer and have used the Galaxy at Captain level with the previous two. Wanted to switch things up a bit and try an escort at Tier 4 instead of the Galaxy mainly because I want to fly something different and the idea of having all my nifty Engineering skills while using an Escort seems like it might be fun.

Only really considering this for one rank level, as I love the Sovereign and would be using that after I surpassed Captain. My only worry is that I will lose a lot of effectiveness not having the Escort Captain skills from the first few ranks. Anyone tried this?

Edit: Potential Build(thought I'd post this just for kicks, everything MKVIII)

Weapons:
Fore: Tetryon Cannon X1, Tetryon Dual Cannons X1, Tetryon Dual Heavy Cannons X1, Breen Rapid Fire Transphasic Torpedo Launcher
Aft: Either 2X Tetryon Beam Arrays or Tetryon Turrets

Deflector - Breen
Engines - Breen
Shields - Reman

Note: I like using the transphasics concept wise and I've actually found them fairly effective with the rapid fire launcher and high yield II on my Excelsior, hence why I use the Breen engines and deflector for the transphasic bonus stats, plus I like the +engine power on the Breen engines.

Consoles: Would focus on shield and weapon power for Engineering, Emitters and Deflector for Science, and Tetryon and Transphasic for Tactical

For BOs I'm thinking something like this with my current BOs and their skill sets.

Tac - Lt: High Yield Torpedo I, Cannon Rapid Fire I, C: Tactical Team I, High Yield Torpedo II, Cannon Rapid Fire II
Eng - Lt: EPTS I, EPTW II
Sci - E: Tachyon Beam I, L: Science Team I, Hazard Emitters II

I'd strongly suggest a different torpedo, I've done the testing on it...

I would swap the tetryons for phasers the random subsystem disable is really nice and tbh in most pve combat you'll find that in a single pass with CRF up you will tear the shields right off your target regardless of the tetryon bonus. When you factor in the increased sp cost and dubious bonus of tetryons they really arent worth it.

When i flew the tier 4 defiant I used phasers in the same configuration you describe with turrets in the rear and quantums which i had macro'ed to high yield . I have a macro keyboard and have it set to drop certain buff (when avail) when firing on a target APA and CRF when i would begin my attack and as soon as i saw shields were gone i would HYT and fire quantums this made every pass pretty much a one shot (so to speak) kill.

I see that your using alot of FE drops as equipment and that's good but if you have a max level crafter you can create the very-rare versions of the above weapons and that combined with a defiant is unholy terror in pve.

Yeah my crafting score is still on the low end which is annoying because I have most of the parts and samples to make the higher end stuff but haven't worked on it enough to get the lower end crafting out of the way.

The only reason for Tetryons was I wanted to try a new concept, pretty much all my fed toons to this point have been all phasers and quant/photon torps and I wanted to mix it up a bit since I find PvE even at Elite to be somewhat easy. I decided I'd either go with Plasma or Tetryon and have tried a full set of both on my Excelsior and ended up liking the Tetryons better. Will look into your suggestions though and give it a try.

Regardless of wanting to try a new build, Quantum Torpedo's give you the most bang for your buck with HY skills. As stated, Phasers are also superior to Tetryon's atm and you're killing yourself in an Escort by using three different cannon types. Stick to 3 DHC's, the single and dual cannon just don't measure up in damage. Definitely turrets in the rear to take advantage of CRF and your front loaded weaponry. Two beams in the back won't do much damage by themselves nor does it make sense to use them in lieu of your much more powerful fore weapons.
