I mean seriously, you can post all the pro Cryptic propaganda you want, but at the end of the day there is no excuse for this nonsense. Its been far too long since new mission content was added, and they should test their updates better before putting them live. Thats really all there is to it.

Captain.Hunter, how are you quite sure that STO will be going free to play in October? Have there been comments or confirmations from the Devs or is this simply speculation because of PW acquiring Cryptic?

Just looking at all the same info everyone else is. Dan has said that there will be new stuff in October, Wishy has even said there are big things in the works that they can't talk about. This, coupled with what happened over at Turbine with roughly the same timeframe and circumstances and the fact that Perfect World is a major player in the F2P market, just seems to scream, "STO is going Free to Play in October".

But wait, isn't the Foundry still broken?

Sorry for the thread derailment.

if that's the reality, do you have some evidence to show how long the devs knew it was coming for? if you know for sure id love to read it. id like to know exactly how long the devs knew about the take over before it was announced.

i suspect they knew before us, as they are closer to it than we are but how 'long' are we talking about here? a couple of days, a week, a month, two? how long does it take for some nameless suit in atari to decide to sell them? one board meeting? two? do cryptic get a say in the process or was the news as big a shock to them as it was to us? did craig or jack tell the devs a day or two before the announcement, or has this been in the work for months so that everybody and their pet targ knew about it?

did they know how long it would take to find a buyer, did they know when the deal would come through, did they know the impact it would have on development? did atari say just carry on as usual, or did they slash their funding right down.

i suspect there are dozens of issues that we will never know about that took place in the process. maybe if they could explain it all we would understand, maybe if we worked at cryptic we would make the same calls they made, or maybe they dropped the ball completely. we will probably never know for sure.

i suspect the reality is that we dont know what happened and can only speculate, unless you can prove otherwise.

Bleh. The foundry was my only reason to log in, to make cool maps and then figure out a story to put on them. Now I have absolutely no reason to log into Star Trek Online. Literally, none.

Yes, but they dont actually give you anything new to DO besides running around them and looking. That same time and manpower could have been spent adding actual playable content to this game, but it wasnt. So no, I dont think that was Atari and a manpower issue, that was a mismanagement of priorities.
They haven't released the tutortials associated with the new zones yet. They could have kept SFA locked up on some test shard at the back of there office, but why, the cosmetics were done, and once they finish the missions they will be released as well.

To be perfectly honest, what bothers me is that this game would not have surived as long as it has without the true trekkies applying vital financial life support to it.

This game has survived because of startrek fans and for me it's almost insulting to see something as beloved as startrek being so buggy.

Guys lets be honest here new content should not be that hard.. I could easily create a new featured mission evey week by msyelf.

Who is making content? Why dont we see tons of new missions added all the time.. We should log on and see in our available log that starfleet has orders for us to investigate soemthing or other on a fairly regular basis.

It seems to me like they spend way to much time making crap for the c store so they can make more money and they dont have a team accually just adding missions..

While I think the Enterprise F looks cool I would much preffer to have something I can do with my heavy escort that has been patrolling the same dang systems for days thinking... Isnt there SOMETHING happening ... SOMEWHERE!

I need more emersion in the game I want to be able to have "trek" missions... I'm sick of blowing up raiders and policing systems... I'm a startrek officer not some beat cop!! we have ships for that and our valuable long range cruisers and such shouldnt be wasting their time policing vulcan space when there is a war going on !!

Regardless I honestly think if they put even 2 guys on making new missions every week just 2 guys!!! and added them during maintanance I would be happier than I am now repeating the same ones over and over.

so you could create 3 or 4 maps from scratch (and i dont mean use existing elements like the foundry, actually design them from nothing), write the story, get it approved by CBS, check the spelling, set up the encounters, create the cut scenes, add the voice over and any unique music, code it into the game, create the rewards, add them, set up all the beacons and waypoints, test for bugs, fix the bugs and any other aspects of it?

and yet considering you think its that easy to do, you think the minor task of adding a couple of uniforms or a ship every month is a time consuming process that is taking up all their time.

if it was that easy that some random person off the internet could make FE every week they would do it wouldn't they? they would crank out 4 or 5 episodes a week of that is all it took. if they are paying these guys to work each week, you would want them to crank out as much stuff as possible. the fact they are not clearly means they cant do it as quickly as you think.

hell if it was that easy to do they would have even more stuff in the store if they could get away with making that much content quickly.

Ehr... wrong

In Times of war Raiders may pursuit a more aggressive Stand against the Federation so it is only viable that not only the old Police Frigates, that are still Starfleet as YOU, are trying to hold them back but that sometimes a "bigger" ship is needed to show that the Federation isn't blinded by the current War...

And of course it is your Duty as a Starfleet Officer...

Really? All by yourself? So, you can write the story, get CBS to approve it, create the new enviroment artwork, characters, animations, do the cutscenes, and produce cast and direct the voice overs in a week - and playtest it to make sure it works? Forget Cryptic, you should form you own MMO development studio.
