Duct tape will be around for a long time.

Gecko seems to have specific uses...and Duct Tape is a general and very effective adhesive tape.

The right tool for the right job!

In my case, that means duct tape or just sledgehammering everything 'cause it's more fun that way.

Duck tape is holding my drivers side wingmirror in place right now (yet another injury my car sustained whilst parked). It's marvellous stuff, but it's very hard to make it look like anything but a bodge job. It's also great for reinforcing old cardboard boxes when you're moving house or something. I can't see either of these being superceded by Gecko tape, they should stick to selling insurance to Americans with their cockney accents.

My Grandad used to refer to hammers as "American Screwdrivers"
