I started playing this game with very little experience pertaining to proper leveling, career selection, ship etc.. My point is I heard science officers should pick science ships only. Is there a way a science offiicer can pick any ship they want and still progress through the game correctly and still be helpful to his fleet. also spending my skill points correctly is also a challenge due to officer career vs class of ship

Yeah... Don't listen to those people.

At the top tier of PvP there are just as many successful Science Escort (Sci-Scorts) pilots as there are Science ship ones. You'll be fine in the Advanced Escort as most of the good Sci-Scort players run that or the MVAE.

The Sci ships are for healing, debuffing and support. The Sci-Scorts are for dps, debuffing and support (Sci Fleet, Dampening Field, etc). Some of us fly in Cruisers, though I haven't seen a successful build yet.

Thank you for your response. I like to collect multiple info from players and then sort it out. I think I'm gonna continue using the escort until I reach admiral and then switch to the intrepid r. I never played a healer before and I think it would be fun.

Whatever ship you play in, don't go levelling playing a DPS role and expect to be able to slip comfortably into a healing role at the endgame. Be sure to get some practice in.

Thank you for your advice Munrock but I ask you this. Do you consider reaching admiral end game. Currently I am rear admiral 6 lower running advanced escort ship. I was considering spending all my credits to buy a science ship now to correct things or wait until I level to admiral (an get the intrepid r. For free.) Allowing me to Save my credits and still have some time to be a righteous science officer.

Any officer can fly any ship in the game that they choose to, the only difference is in the playstyle that comes with each ship-type. I myself have a science alt that is in a Raptor, which is the Klingon equivalent of the escort and it does quite well in pvp

Switch to science ships whenever you like, it's just that when you do you might be a bit alienated by the different play style at first. You can always switch to a science ship without spending big on it, run a few missions with it and see how you fare. If you find yourself overwhelmed, stick with the sci ship so you can learn it better, otherwise go back to the escort and speed through the last few levels. It's really down to the feel of it.
