Hey everyone,
Ok, I have read on the forums where some people have a bonus defense of 80% on their ship when they are moving. How do you get it that high?!?!?!?!?? My normal bonus defense is 70%, and with the Aegis engines, I can get it up to 75%, but how do you guys get it up to 80%?!?!?!?!?!?!? Oh, by the way, I fly the Defiant-R, (Tactical Escort Retrofit)
Maximize your Defense by having your Engine Power around 65 (actual values very due to efficiency), this will get your Defense up to 70%.
Two Aegis components add another 5% each (Total of 10% Defense), which makes it 80%.
Then also factor in the Evasive Trait that adds another 10% Defense. Which gives you a maximum Defensive Boost of 90%, without defensive boosts like Evasive, Deuterium, or the Subspace Console (from the Devidian series).
That was changed a while ago. Cruisers are base caped at 60% and Escorts 70%.
And like I said, Aegis with the Deflector and Engines adds 10%, then another 10% with the Evasive Trait. Then abilities like the Subspace Console and Evasive adds more on top of that.

Yeah, originally one piece added 10% Defense, but that was regarded too good so they split the difference between the Aegis Deflector and the Aegis Engine.
No it can do higher. But there is a diminishing returns at the extreme ends of the Accuracy vs Defense curve. Basically adding extra Defense or Accuacy to a very high value won't affect your changed or hitting/being hit nearly as much as adding the same amount to a lower value.
The 75% cap you are thing of is for Shield Damage Resistance. It's capped at a total of 75% reduction.

And that Defense bonus only applied if you are moving at a modest speed or faster.
