I'm spec'd for cruisers etc however im fitting out a fleet escort for pvp, my main ship is an excelsior and then i have my fleet escort.
With my skill points im planning on dropping my assault cruiser points (dont use it anymore) and starship operations and taking two points from my starship aux performance (down to 5) then with the points i have left i was planning on putting 5 each in fleet escort and retrofit cruiser slots and putting 7 skill points into cannons, the big question is would this make a difference to my cannon weapons and my two ships (not spec'd into those ships atm)
The reason for wanting to spec into both types of ship is that my fleet escort will be purely PVP nothing else. for missions or what not i will be using my cruiser.
As for Aux performance back when i started i was told to do this by someone in my old fleet so i will scrap that then judging by your comment and put them elsewhere.
The two ships arnt as different to spec into as you would think. Depending on build ofcourse.
I.e. Run a 8 turret / 7 turret and 1 torp Excelsior with a 4 cannon / 3 cannon and 1 torp Fleet Escort with turrets in the back. Last I heard that was a pretty common build for escorts and that Excelsior build does not suck. I use it and, while I know its not an accurate representation of real pvp, never lose in 1v1 pvp matches with my friends. Its also great for pve because you can ignore weapon arcs and focus on surviving. More important than ever with the borg now being pretty trigger happy.
My escort has 2 dual heavy cannons a dual beam bank and a quantum torp launcher in the front and 2 beam arrays and another quantum torp launcher in the rear, all cannons and arrays are antiproton which I am fully spec'd for so that's my escort weapons the cruiser is essential the same but instead of cannons I have more beam arrays
